Linux Desktops are a fine thing. I use mine since 2010. They're just not mainstream enough for a broad interest of infections.
In fact in Ubuntu, for example, it is fairly easy to compromise a standard Linux Desktop and snatch a users's password so a malicious script could sudo itself to install 'never-to-be-discovered'™ root kits which not only will hide themselves effectively from any output, but also will even update themselves to keep disguised in memory.
I am convinced that if a linux system has been infected it is much worse than just a plain old infested windows, which is bad enough alone.
Reading the news about AV Software, I get the creeps. Last highlight: Remote Code Execution in TrendMicro.
As always there's one very important thing to keep in mind:
Security Software is NOT software security!

I don't really install AV due to deleting a false positive file, but recently I'm using Kaspersky AV.

Windows Defender ftw! Here's the deal, I dont want to spend money on anti - viruses, and dont like cracking them, using a cracked AV can get your PC infected too so think before you try one of those . secondly Windows Defender works pretty well, weekly updates and works almost the same as all other paid AVs
