Torrent software doesn't do anything about security. It just setup peer to peer connections and upload / download stuff. You just need to have an updated vrious guard along with that. I use qBittorrent along with Comodo internet security. As long as download is completed Comodo check it and delete if something fishy included. Even if it's a false positive.

They have huge list of new and old torrent that you won't find on public tracker (torrent site) and many of them are exclusive to private trackers. If you want to get in (register for) a private tracker you will need to take a interview via their IRC. and if you pass then they will 'invite' you to register on their site (myanonamouse.net) for an example. Also another system is filling out an application and you get an invite (animebytes.tv) for example. qBitorrent is the same as utorrent without the ads

Thanks for the info .  Interesting but at the same time makes sense that they would be this strict with their membership.  Probably a good way to go if one is opting for safety and security, but somehow I'd like to have anonymity too.  This feels a little like being too thorough with their information requests - I'd hate for all my details to end up in the database of a group of individuals I don't know.
to be safe don't use torrenting .....

remain downloading from direct sources and not half on half on different places that has a virus rate of 50%.

Agreed.  That is my motto too.  Especially in this day and age where evil doers are just waiting for newbies to try out torrents.  I'd be a total pushover for them with the little I know about how to do it.
Well I have been using Torrent Software and sites since 2004. Im talking about those old days when Torrent software were big and Suprnova.org was the big name. I have started using because we were never getting any of the new TV series. In last 15 years I have never had a torrent related problem like a virus infection. I don't remember having any in infection problems except one time which happened coz of infected USB drive.

What I don't do it download from fishy direct download sites which are full of browser high jack popups plus we don't know what are we downloading till we get it. At least in torrent sites those who downloaded quickly warn others if the torrent has a problem or if it's spam etc. You can just download from trusted users and those torrents which have been downloaded for a while.

This makes great sense   I've noticed in South Africa, where general use of Torrents is frowned upon by our local ISP, successful users have organized their own groups in the same way.  Membership is restricted and torrents are restricted too to their own lists.
Stay away from torrent downloads, mostly of them contains harmful files like virus, etc that may infect your PC. What I do recommend is download internet download manager (idm) to download fle directly.

If you are using common sense there is no way you are going to be infected by virus via torrent. For example, only download from trusted uploader, trusted site and always look at the comments and see if they say something about virus. Also I never had any problem with torrenting and I have been doing this since 1980's. Never had one virus. I also stay safe generally to download from private trackers only. Not public. Public its lots of risk but Private you can trust since they have to have an account and someone doesn't want to get banned by going through so much length to get into that tracker and using virus..

What did you mean by you have been doing this since 80s ?

Apart from that I agree with that. Common Sense apply for this too. I don't see the logic is you can stay safe just because you are using Download Manager. If you are using an infected source file and have no active virus guard then your PC going to get infected anyway. Actually Torrent downloads are lot safer because usually other members comment about the file and warn if something wrong about it. As a habit I don't download too new files with no comments. Also files from any strangers.
I heard that uTorrent software also has some exploit so it's not safe to use it anymore.
A few years ago it had even a built-in cryptocoin miner which always keep the users' CPU at 100% so it generated high electricity bills.
Don't use this sofware anymore. Use qBittorrent on Windows. It's free and open source!
