Having a backlinks on quality website is really a good choice, yeah also agree that massive backlinking is annoying.

If you add 1000 backlinks in a single day then it wouldn't look natural. Also you need to be careful about anchor text of those links. If all back links have same anchor text then it won't look good either. So you need to have mix of all type of links. Related, not so related, do follow, no follow and all kinds of anchor texts.
Both Content and Back-links plays a important role in making a website listed on the top of search results by having good seo score. While content comes under On Page Optimisation and Back-links comes under Off-Page optimisation.
Content works very well on low compititive keywords. Sometimes you can rank even without any backlinks. But this needs some serious keyword research.

im totaly agree with you, i have spent a couple time to get best keyword
Sites depeneds On contents if you have nice contents on your site you will get better user count
Depends on both if you have backlinks but you dont have good contents on site then you will just get few users but not on regular base if you have both then your sites will be popular for ever

Don't relay much on backlinks. I think back-links slowly loosing their place in Google search Algorithm. Exact Anchor text back-links lost their place while ago. Now you should have only about 20% of less of those and plenty of unrelated links.
