Shadow Hosting  VPS 5 Review | Shadow Hosting
#1
And...
Is this the review that everyone want? Hahaha.

I'm so happy that I can make this review right now, since if @humanpuff69 and @deanhills not out of giveaway, I'll not get VPS 5, but they left the giveaway. And, I'M SO HAPPY LOL. I don't know why @Rehan drop his VPS 5.

And, here it is, VPS 5 by @Manal / Shadow Hosting review.
I'll use review template like I did in VPS 8 and VPS 10 review.

Review start from here:
First thing I usually show to you, VPS specs inside the VPS plans,
Quote:Disk Space 100 GB HDD
RAM: 4 GB and 4 GB vSwap
IP Addresses: 1x IPv4
Virtualization: KVM
Monthly Traffic: Unmetered
Location: [Image: de.png] Germany
Control Panel: Virtualizor
Connection: 750 MBit/s
Provided by: Shadow Hosting
Terms: TOS
Requirements: Backlinks to Shadow Hosting and Post4VPS are required. And a sig. backlink

Second, benchmark, thanks to @"Hidden Refuge" for your benchmark script,
Since VPS 5 only have 1 IPv4 and no IPv6, I'll use "./bench.sh -b" instead of "./bench.sh -b46",

@"Hidden Refuge", what's the error said? :p
As we can see, the speed is pretty nice, I don't feel that the speed is slow.

Third, RAM, it's really 4GB + 4GB on swap,

Swap:          4095          49        4046

I never know it will use that much of RAM,
Fourth, Speedtest, I think I already given the Speedtest result in Shoutbox, and now here it's,

Hetzner really give a wonderful speed, I think I saw some result like this with Galaxy Host Plus.
Both Shadow Hosting and GHP are giving nice speed. But, GHP ended very badly, I hope Shadow Hosting will not end like that, and can keep supporting Post4VPS!

Fifth, disk usage,

Damn it, what the hell Discord do there, hahaha.

Ah, I want to add something. Did you all know Manal gave me more 2 dedicated cores for my VPS? He really did.

I don't know this effect my VPS or not, since the CPU_Meltdown, I heard this somewhere, it only happens to Intel's CPU. @Manal, you want to look up for this bugs? I don't felt anything different since I noticed this bugs (like 2 or 3 days ago).

Then, what am I using this VPS for?
When I applied in the giveaway, I said that I want to host a website, like everyone does. Then host a discord bot, also as my second desktop! It works very well, I'm very enjoyed using this VPS, I never face any downtimes, except for the first downtime. I'll tell the downtime in experience section.

My experience:
This VPS is fast and stable, I hosted VestaCP on this VPS, I installed it only under 15 minutes (as VestaCP said it'll be 15 minutes or so), because, when I start the download, if it's a pretty big file over 200MB, it only needs 2 seconds, or even less! If the file is little tiny size of it, no need to wait, when you start, it done.

The installation also fast, no need to wait longer to install. It has VNC on it, works great, I installed 2 or 3 Ubuntu flavor there, the installation doesn't take an hour, it's less than an hour, I'm happy with that. From Indonesia, this VPS is stable, speed is nice, I don't have any lag if I don't play any animation (since my connection is not pretty good, even with 4G).

I actually don't know what else to cover, lol.

Nah, as I said before, I have faced a downtime, I'm pretty confused with why and how the downtime appear. Manal and Dynamo seem don't know how to fix it. Since I'm pretty new with Virtualizator, I don't know nothing. The problem is like this, I enabled VGA and its acceleration, it broke the VPS. VPS won't start, even when I restart it one hundred times, no effect. Manal and Dynamo kept give me new VPS (and destroy the old one, of course), but whenever I enabled the VGA, it broken. We, in the first place, are suspecting the ISO bugs, but when I try to solve it myself, I found it.

The fix was easy, just disable the acceleration, you can enable the VGA if you want. And, the VPS is back online. That's it.
So for other VPS 5 holders, DON'T enable the VGA acceleration, otherwise, you can't start the VPS.

Last part for this review,
Pros:
  1. The speed is nice
  2. Stable
  3. No downtimes until now
  4. What else, I confused hahaha
Cons:
  1. Can't enable VGA accelerator, I don't know if this is important or not, as long as my server online, I don't really complaining.
Rating: I will give.. 9.5/10.

A message from me:
I'm not a Windows fanboy neither Linux. But, as it's KVM, it'll be perfect if you enable Windows on it (I heard you already in beta test for Windows), and not only Windows Server 2012, but also Windows Server 2016. (Windows Server 2019 are out already lol.)
It'll be complete if you enable those, and add evaluation mode too, I guess everyone want your VPS here.

End of review.
So then, that's my review for VPS 5, I can conclude that this VPS is nice for medium server usage, it also works great wherever you're as Germany is in the central of every country while USA is pretty far from Middle East, for example. It's stable and super fast, I really happy with this VPS. I want to say many-many thanks to VPS Provider, Shadow Hosting by @Manal, and Post4VPS!
Thanks to Limitless Hosting and Post4VPS for providing me excellent VPS 13!

O.o Nice VPS.Good Specs.Overall vps is very good.It will be very best with Windows. The VPS has great specs. The main reason i terminated the vps was that i disbelieve in Manal.I don't know about him.He is new and i thought i should keep my Host4FUN vps and let others test it first.I was shocked by Manal he first made posts to get a free vps and then he changed his plan and offered us free VPS.Thats why i thought its better to keep VPS 1. Big Grin
But now i think i was wrong.

Thanks to Post4VPS and Hostlease for their great services.

I actually used to apply vps 5 but after some consideration i cancel my request (before the vps is given)

i think the vps 5 only have 1 vcore from @Manal promotion post so i drop it because vps 9 have twice the cpu and ram . Also at that time i just too lazy to migrate my server

btw Congratulation on your vps 5

I don't remember any one vCore post. And yup, I offer 2 cores, not virtual but dedicated. I added another two because of the VGA issue that tiwil faced and I had to somehow compensate him. Yes, you're right. VPS 9 is great and has alot of stuffs to give and I am too astonished with the specs they provide. However, I am more likely to choose European or Asian server before I go for Amerika(Yup, Amrika not America Big Grin).

Thanks for the review @tiwil, but do you think you could make a summary of the review as it turned out much too long? Like the review reads a bit messy and unstructured - it makes it difficult for people to understand and it doesn't provide justice to the excellence of the VPS.   Like in order of priority, what is it of the VPS that wowed you the most?  And then what wowed you after that?  Like put at least three or four of the most important needs in a VPS that were met in the first paragraph of the review - location?  speed? support? high tech? A great host who was eager to provide you with a high standard and high spec VPS from an excellent Datacenter?

Would have been nice, after the summary, to provide a background paragraph with background heading about who Shadow Hosting is, that Shadow Hosting has recently donated two very high spec VPSs to post4vps with location in Germany for which competition was very high because of its above average specs.  You were a lucky winner during its first Giveaway.  You were given the VPS on X date, and have had the VPS for X number of days.  You could have added to the background paragraph that the Datacenter is Hetzner, one of the highest quality Datacenters in Europe and also globally.  Post4vps is very fortunate to have been sponsored VPSs of such high quality.

Just under the paragraph about how great Hetzner speed is, it would have been nice to include a visual speed test image that provides a summary of ping and speed.  Would have been good for the VPS too.  Like the speed test you advertised in the Shoutbox after you took occupation of the VPS.  Would also have been great if you could have posted a second speed test taken later in the month to show comparison and consistency of the high speed.  People relate good to visual images.  Here is the one you advertised in the Shoutbox just after your received the VPS on 22 November 2018:

And this is the one from yesterday's test:

Proving consistency in the excellent speed of the VPS.

In the paragraph about experience you mention 15 minutes and VestaCP.  With the way you wrote the paragraph people may think it takes minutes instead of seconds because people normally read paragraphs very fast and their eyes just catch the 15 minutes and minutes in the first few sentences instead of seconds in a later sentence.   You could have made it a very simple sentence - i.e. although VestaCP could take as long as 15 minutes to download depending on the file size, in the case of your new Shadowhosting VPS it took seconds to download - indicative of how lightning fast the VPS is.

You also didn't mention specifically what the quality of the support was like - like for me that should have featured very highly, and how fast the turnaround was to the queries you had. How were your inquiries dealt with? Like the host was very keen for you to be happy with your VPS and went to considerable lengths to solve your inquiries within record time.  You could have provided specific facts about why you were given more cores to meet a special need you had.  Better to match the more cores with a special need, as people would wonder why a host would spread around more cores without the actual need to do so.  I'm sure you meant good, but better to show factual reason for the more cores as an example of the considerable lengths the host was prepared to go for your VPS to solve the problem - he was keen for you to have a very high standard product.

I don't think it's a good idea to put trouble shooting inside the review - like ask people to solve problems that may not have anything to do with the VPS.  Like it's not clear when you ask Hidden Refuge whether it was a problem with the Benchmark script/test or a technical problem with the VPS. You could have mentioned some of the problems you had but that they were overcome.  Just so those from the outside who don't know and are reading the review for the first time, will understand that you have a high standard VPS, and most of your needs have been met.

For the Windows issue you could have added that the host informed us that Windows is in a beta stage of testing. That the host is hoping to add Windows soon and that testing Windows so carefully is a sign of the host's striving for a high standard of perfection in service and providing a thoroughly tested product.

Wow, Intel i7 CPU with 4 cores. It can't be slow in speed. Smile

Overall it is a good review. Network speed is also nice especially for Europe locations. As far as I know, Hetzner Germany should also be quite stable in uptime.

And you have got unmetered monthly traffic too. Congrats for winning this great VPS 5.

Virtualizor Cannot Activate the VGA accelerator without VGA or it will trigger the VPS cannot. booting Because of an error! I suggest you just turn it off! OK!
It's Not a Bug or an Error!
But because there is no VGA on the server

not to kick out the deal but after seeing what the CPU becomes meh for me.
maybe powerful of course! but not my choice.

overall @Manal you got a decent vps config there.
VGA is to boost vnc with a desktop environment not needed as a server.

I found the following info on the Web about the Meltdown and Spectre CPU bugs explained. Kind'a scary. Looks as though the Spectre bug can allow attackers to steal information from the memory of a program because of a flaw in the design of the CPU. It is a very well known and documented flaw for which there are patches available for both Microsoft and Linux. Maybe someone should alert Manal (create a support ticket for it) so he can submit a ticket to Hetzner as I'm sure Hetzner will know how to patch it because it's a well known bug and serious enough for them to pay attention. They will also have their own patch - I'm sure - for fixing it. Surprising that Hetzner hasn't picked up on it.
https://blog.barkly.com/meltdown-spectre-bugs-explained

Wonder whether there are other VPS CPU's with the same bug, but we haven't picked up on it yet because we haven't tested for it?

if I may ask - the report that reflected the flaw that you quoted. Was that quoted from the Benchmark Report?

it mostly doesnt used on normal server that do like web server , db server or even game server . gpu on server mostly used on render farms , cloud gaming like liquidsky , parsec , shadow , etc and those gpu server is mostly expensive so all server in this forum doesnt use gpu acceleration / vga acceleration
