Those signature links, blog comments have no value anymore. Those are considered spammy links now.

They drive more traffic but that's it. For blog comments, it is the only way to earn a .edu/.gov backlink.

Yes it's hard to get .edu / .gov black-links unless as a blog comment. But if we talk about forum signatures, blog footers etc are out right spammy when it comes to SEO. Indeed good for traffic if u dont care about seo.
Best way to get links from forums is inside posts. Not even profile link.
