Even though the popular belief that gTLD domains are hard to SEO it's just another false positive. I have a project where I had encountered a site with a xyz domain name. This site outranked mine as well as several top level high authority sites including Amazon and ebay. Only with good content and some carefully planed SEO work. After getting to top at some keyword phrases site has started earning about $500+ a month and then sold in Flippa for about $4000 usd. It was a simple review site. So if you know what you are doing those extensions really don't matter.
