Well try it with Debian 7 or try this http://board.bgpanel.net/viewtopic.php?id=522
And if it still the same then you can PM me your VPS info with a fresh debian 7, maybe I can try..(looks like, would be free on this weekend).

So at first I had a problem with Ajaxp web FTP, when I tried to access it it gave me a 500 Server cant handle request error, but I fixed it by changing the permissions of /var to 777, but now I have another problem in which after the AJXP logo is displayed, it goes right away to a 403 Forbidden error page. If you use it properly then it's currently official stable version should not have any.
