How do you manage your Windows 7 updates? - deanhills - 04-17-2018
I'd like to hear from members who still have Windows 7 and how they manage their Windows update system. Are you on automatic updates or do you go for the "let me choose" system, and how do you feel about the updates in general?
Reason I ask is I've just been through a bad update experience with Windows 7 Professional. I'm on the "let me choose" system. I check up on updates maybe every two to three months - work through the list and then select those that I think are needed. My last updates I did that way on 10 April completely brought my computer to its knees. Going from reasonably fast, it went to extremely slow and when I rebooted it moved very slowly. Initially I thought maybe Microsoft needs more time to configure things and was working in the background, but the slowness continued and some of my applications weren't happy either - some links wouldn't work like in Kaspersky Dashboard and my VPN dashboard was written off, I couldn't use my VPN any longer. So what I did, thank goodness for the restore function of Windows, was to restore Windows to where it was before the updates.
So Windows is on my mind as after the restore my computer is working flawless and fast again. HOWEVER, now I'm worried, I'm obviously not up to date with security updates and I don't have a clue which specific update created problems for Windows. So this is why I'm asking what others are doing with their Windows 7 updates.

you might try to revert windows updates.
but updates are always shit.
you might do small updates. or even a one on one update.

how i manage it
1.go to any linux distribution site (eg. Ubuntu)
2.download an iso
3.burn to flashdrive
4.turn off your pc
5.set boot order to flashdrive
6.install linux
7.you dont have to deal with shitty windows update again

You live blue glue if your computer is exposed to a virus that is a new buying throw is an indo word but if you want to update your windows 7 software go to control panel >> update (100% accuracy only in windows 10) not enough help if you do not enable automatic update

I just do not enable automatic updates.
Most of the updates are not really useful, or like beta software that have not been fully tested. Automatic updates are only for those lazy users, or users who do not mind using their PC resources to help Microsoft testing its software.
For me, I would only manually install important security updates that are really necessary. For example the recent security fix for Intel processors.

If you check my OP I'm not on automatic updates either. I'm on "let me choose". I'm almost certain the problem came from the latest roll up. Like it's impossible to break down the roll ups. Or it could have been a Windows update. There were two roll ups and a number of Windows updates. Don't know whether you've noticed that even if one Googles an update, one still doesn't always know what the update's supposed to do, or what will be effected by the updates. At least with the restore function, there is a way one can check what software or functions of the computer will be affected by going back to a restore point. Wish Microsoft could do something similar for the updates.

i dont understand how people like linux, windows is the best system and linux is hard to use

Windows is less secure than Linux, particularly for hosting accounts. Windows has become very complicated too and is so full of holes, it needs updates regularly instead of once in a while. Windows is also expensive. Linux is free most of the way. Linux is not that hard to use. Like I'm sure it must have taken some time to learn to use Windows, and once you were used to it it became your own best system because you're familiar with using it. Similarly, if you should put focus on Linux and learn to use it properly, then after a while you'll also be used to it, you will wonder why you haven't let go of Windows a long time ago.

well for security there are linux virus but it is much much less than windows because the virus maker think why not just target a much bigger user base system (windows) than the less one (linux) . but linux virus does exist

yes so you have to install anti-virus on your linux os to prevent virus attacks on your computer like last year that made the whole world smolder with virus in all versions of os windows
