ungoogled chromium and bromite - your online privacy and security in your hands - rudra - 11-13-2018

hi guys,
i am here to present you with the information of two amazing browsers. both based on chrome and promise the best in security and privacy. As we all know very well, ensuring security and privacy in this world is an ongoing effort that can never cease and never be fool proof and complete. The effort made to know about relevant things and to apply in your own case is what tends to push it towards betterment. with that in mind,

for your mobile use,

bromite browser at bromite.org

which is for android.

for your desktop use,

ungoogled chromium at https://github.com/Eloston/ungoogled-chromium

binary at https://ungoogled-software.github.io/ungoogled-chromium-binaries/

both uses a lot of open source patch sets over chromium source to free it of google proprietary codes and connections and also hardens a lot. you can read more about it in their respective descriptions.

Hope it will help you on your journey towards more private and secure internet. thanks.

note: you can use dns over https in bromite. go to chrome://flags/   and search dns.

Great topic @rudra, thanks for posting it.

I checked Github but looks as though it's Linux only for desktop - is there a version for Windows?

Wait a minute - I think I found something in the FAQs? I found downloads for Windows here:
https://ungoogled-software.github.io/ungoogled-chromium-binaries/

https://ungoogled-software.github.io/ungoogled-chromium-binaries/releases/windows/64bit/

Have you tried the above for Windows? Will this work as a Chromium browser?

Also, if yes to the above and I'm on the right track, does the browser get updates and does one have to get them from Github - or do they come with the browser software?

i gave those links as binary. means compiled executables. Smile
no. updating is your responsibility. also installing extension too.
say you want ublock. you download and unpack the extension. then activate developer mode in ungoogled chromium extensions tab. next you load it. pretty much manually. security and privacy does not go well with automation. you know. hehe

windows binary is there in my binary link. i use these. they are like chromium. but better..
