Can't access freevps.us - certificate issue? - deanhills - 12-07-2018
I'm a bit stumped. Usually when my browser says I can't access a Website it comes with an Advanced Option to make it an exception but this time, both in Chrome and Mozilla Firefox I'm barred from accessing freevps.us. I'm not given an "out".
Am I the only one? Looks like there is a certificate issue with freevps.us in that it hasn't been renewed.

You're not the only one. I tried to visit the other day and noticed the same thing. There is no way to override it and add an exception because of the way they've configured the server, or so an alternative browser informed me. When I couldn't override it in Firefox, I tried with Opera. That's the one that gave me the additional information and said that it couldn't be granted an exception because the server admin had selected some higher security setting. I don't know more about it, other than that.
It's definitely not on your end and I have no idea who to contact to tell. I don't actually even really participate there, so I don't have any of their contact details. I'm not even sure why I was trying to visit, or why I bothered checking it with a second browser? I'm pretty content with post4vps, even if I end up waiting or not getting the VPS I want yet. I quite enjoy some of the folks here and I also enjoy small communities that are still fairly new.

Thanks for the feedback @KGIII. All we can hope is for @"Hidden Refuge" to return to our Forum again. I haven't seen him in a long time. I have a feeling he must have been seriously busy with exams and stuff, and when he visits us again, he'd probably automatically also visit freevps.us and be able to fix it then.
I wonder whether if I go to the Internet Web Archive if I'll be able to access an older version of the Forum. Going to try that now.

If it helps, I want to say I tried visiting around the 30th or the 1st and the certificate indicated it had just expired very recently. I haven't been back to see.

the site is abandoned since the closure of the site . they will keep the archive to make sure the educational post still exist . hopefully even though it is abandoned they renew the certificate or just disable https and use insecure http instead since now there are no authentication needed . why authenticate to the forum anyway since you cannot post anymore

I simply do not care it anymore, post4vps has grown as a real alternative to freevps. No hope it will return. Well technology always will get updated. Old information will be out of date.

Try using the http://freevps.us link and Bingo FreeVPS us accessible
Maybe you can contact the site owner to renew their SSL

I am still able to access https://freevps.us, at least for now.
Firefox does not ask me for any exception and I can access their https forum directly. Perhaps because I did visit it a few days ago, and Firefox can still remember that. Otherwise I do not know why you guys cannot access the page.

if you are on mobile, use puffin browser on desktop mode. you will be given option to continue. HSTS is better for security. but they should have configured auto update of ssl certificate. sadly they didnt. im going to discord..
Update. I went and logged in the discord channel of freevps.us and informed them about it. Monad aka Hidden refuge promptly took charge of things and updated the certificate and restarted nginx so now there is a valid certificate and you all can access freevps.us normally without hassle. Have fun guys. Thanks HR.
