Time frame for attendance of VPS Support Requests & Guidelines - deanhills - 01-31-2019

We thank those forum members of post4vps who are always considerate with their use of support requests and who have been helping fellow post4vps members with their VPS support requests. This is always much appreciated.

Following a remark that was made in the Shoutbox a couple of days ago I inquired with @Dynamo regarding the 24-hour turnaround that one of the members expected.

According to @Dynamo there is no such rule at post4vps.  The staff will try their best to help within the time we are online.  Sometimes it will be within minutes, hours or more than a day.  It depends on when we're online at post4vps.

If you absolutely expect a 24 hours time frame for your VPS support requests, then possibly a paid VPS with such support availability would be a better bet for you.

Also consider that the staff and members who are helping with the support requests are all doing it as a voluntary effort, and to use the support requests sparingly. To consider their time, please be clear what you want.  Describe the OS you're using, the outcome of what you want, and the result you are getting.  If the result came up with an error message, please show a print screen of the error message.  Also try and check error logs before you submit the support request and if they are meaningful, add the error log to the support request.

Most important.  Please don't PM the staff and please don't use the Shoutbox.  Use the Support Forums instead:

Private VPS Support Forum
Public VPS Support Forum

If there is confidential information in your VPS support request like IP etc, then the Private VPS Support Forum is always better.  However if you want a wider scope of responses to your support request where other members could also help you, the Public VPS Support Forum will be good for you.

Please also check the Guide Lines and Rules in the Admin Sticky Thread of the VPS Support Forum:

to better assist you we will  ask you to speak clearly in detail how your issue showed up.
Use this template so we can handle your request:

Quote:your vps name?:
which node are you?:
whats your issue?:

Remember do not post your password in the topic!
An admin and the provider can in most cases login through root acces.

please check this thread as it can changed at anytime.

A few rules when posting a support topic:
  • Do not hijack other user's support topics. Even if you have the same issue it won't help. Your own topic helps us deliver support catered to your account.
  • Make sure your name servers are set correctly and your blog or site is setup correctly.
  • Don't post multiple topics, if you posted a topic about a different issue with your account, please stick to one topic.
  • Try to be precise as possible. Ambiguously describing something makes it harder for us to help
  • If you can post a screen dump of what you see, please post that too. Every detail matters.

Not all paid hosting providers offer 24 hour support. You don't get that from budget hosting. Only those high-end hosting providers off that kind of service and for that you need to pay premium. Usually you get faster support in hosting provider forums but there are some issues only administrators can take care of. For example if you decide to go for a vps with doesn't come with a control panel then you have to wait for staff members to take care of things like OS installations. It can take as long as it take depending on how busy those staff members are. This is why personally I don't go for servers without a control panel. No matter how big the server is I have no use for it if I have to relay on others to get things done.

24 hours can be little to much if there are several staff members out there but we have to remember they do work for free in their free time. We don't pay for the service either. It's the sad truth and we should think about it before taking vps like that. Sad

Just to add.

About passwords. or information about your vps can be accessed by an admin through an admin panel. you only have to mention which vps you have by mentioning vps plan + vps id.

It is funny someone would expect a 24-hour time frame from a free VPS service.

Now the VPS support subforum contains a few rules when posting a support topic. https://post4vps.com/thread-21.html

Perhaps we should add the above guidelines including the time frame information into it, so as to avoid new members requesting for an unreasonably short time frame in the future.

Thanks for the suggestion @tryp4vps. Have added to the OP as well.
