Handbrake is open source and freeware.

https://handbrake.fr/

Handles pretty much any codec for video and audio. Has no limits.

Alternatively XMedia Recode is available for free without limitations.

There is also the old good software called "SUPER". It's freeware, too.

I do not know what is your purpose on video editing. Movavi has a video editor and you can do some video editing on it. There are some mixing option.

I would highly recommend Handbrake as well, Also try out FFMPEG if you are good with commandline. It can do everything and anything and I mean anything. It has so many advance options that even I don't know half of them.

It really depends as to why you need to convert. It it because you are looking for smaller file size(such as converting uncompressed .avi to .mp4) or is it because you want to play it on something that only supports a specific extension? If its the compression, I'd highly recommend using Handbrake, you can configure it your liking and it really reduces the file size by alot!

I was also about to say what @Honey did say. What exactly the reason you wanted it for. What types of file you want to convert and what for ? I use one call Any Video Converter for simple stuff. It supports all sorts of videos formats and any 4k video formats. More than I ever need. It can rip CD/DVD and also burn too. Also this thing can download videos from YouTube, Facebook, VEVO, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Dailymotion, Vimeo, Metacafe and many more online videos. It can do quality H.265 Videos so it's used by many popular TV/Movie uploaders. I like it's video editing features. I used it for creating Youtube videos. Well I haven't touched it for a while but when I used it was great. So maybe give it a try if you haven't.

Hmmm, never heard that before. Small size and freeware (i guess), but only support atleast win 7 as stated on that website, does it have option to resize the video resolution or atleast work to play the converted videos to android? Tough that can be a good replacement / alrernatives for my beloved total video converter and format factory Smile

It has/can do all the things you mentioned. However it is a more advanced converter. So you have to adjust all settings yourself. No premade profiles. You have to know your devices and adjust codecs, bitrates and etc accordingly.

Handbrake might be more suitable for you. It allows to do everything, is also advanced but has premade encoding profiles for Android and etc. So you can just open the original file, select a profile and hit encode. No fiddling with encoder settings needed. And even after selecting a profile you can make your own changes if needed.
