Mission Improbable - HL2 EP2 Gamemode (Linux compatible build) - Mashiro - 05-09-2019

Mission Improbable - Gordon Freeman is tasked with re-activating a Resistance listening post. From there, things quickly escalate.

Mission Improbable is a single player gamemode for the game Half-Life 2: Episode Two. It has been initially released in 2010 and has been re-released in 2012 as a full version. Originally the game was split into episodes. During 2015 a fix for the gamemode has been released that made it compatible with Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer. Valve made this Source SDK Base 2013 as the default SDK base for gamemodes back when all the Valve games have been updated to the latest Source engine.

Requirements to play his gamemode:
- Half-Life 2 (Paid)
- Half-Life 2: Episode One (Paid)
- Half-Life 2: Episode Two (Paid)
- Source SDK Base 2013 (Free on Steam)

The here provided download contains the original unmodified gamemode as available here and the Source SDK Base 2013 fix has been merged into it. The gameinfo.txt file has been modified to make the game work on Linux with native Half-Life 2 Linux game builds from Steam.

I have changed nothing else! Install the games and the Source SDK Base 2013 first and then the gamemode. Restart Steam after installing the gamemode to get it detected by Steam.

How to install: Extract the folder "missionimprobable" from the archive to /home/<username>/.steam/steamapps/sourcemods/.

This might as well just work on Windows but I made this build because I noticed that most Half Life 2 gamemodes are not compatible with the Linux versions of the games, sadly Sad.

That is great to see a mod that is supporting linux , some software run on linux but mod doesnt . Seeing this mod support linux is a step in the right direction making much more reason to go to linux and leave windows

And i still waiting for half life 3 release , they still not confirmed it

Yes, I just realized that after watching some gameplay videos of so many great mods. They were only available for Windows Sad . The only Linux compatible mods are generally the one that have neither .exe nor .dll files. The mods may not work directly, though. You have to edit a few files, sometimes rename folders and etc. Most importantly the gameinfo.txt file needs to patched (for HL2 and Portal mods). I found a few more most likely compatible mods. I might share them if I can successfully patch them.

exe and dll is windows files . the reason the mod use that file probably when they compile the mod they compile it using dll and exe instead of linux files and also the files cannot used beetwen os only one os . i dont know how they make the mod but hopefully they can compile it for other os than windows

Just dualboot or use virtual environment, its not that complicated. You can even use wine/crossover etc, but that can get complicated and might mess up your steup.

I guess everyone already does that. I am curious about the process of patching. How do you do it HR ? If it is possible to share your tricks and give some general instructions.

Also I wonder about the legal implications. Is it not somehow promoting piracy ?

RE: Mission Improbable - HL2 EP2 Gamemode (Linux compatible build) - Mashiro - 05-23-2019

@Kururin

Native performance is better. Half-Life titles are available natively for Linux. Most mods that contain Windows files aren't compatible due to the .exe and .dll files with the Linux builds of the games. So using Wine/Crossover meh. Dualboot is better in that case.

@rudra

There is zero piracy or hacking.

1. Download original mod files and the provided Source SDK Base patch and merge them (simply copy files from patch over the mod files).
2. Modify gameinfo.txt to work properly on Linux by changing the requirements to the one of the Linux versions of the games (just changing the text file).

Point 2 is the tricky part because you have to know what you have to change in the text file. I had luck and found already premade gameinfo.txt files. So I merged the original mod with the original Source SDK Base patch and added the updated gameinfo.txt file.

That's it. The mods are free already. So no piracy and no real hacking. You still have to buy the base games to play the mods.
