They are promoting the camera with all might. Saying things like it has the best camera ever on a smart phone. Did anyone check the review ?

Yes I 've read some and they said that it has better camera than iPhone 7 and it can shoot raw images like dlsr cameras.
BUT, it has higher price too.
If I had 1000 dollars for phone then I would buy an iPhone 7 Plus.

Google might be loosing faith on Samsung to build Android flagships. Especially when we see what they did with Note 7.

Well Google Pixel is the phone that win the DxOMark Mobile benchmark . now the pixel is the 1st in the dxomark benchmark so i think your argument of best camera maybe true

It doesn't matter if they provide the best camera, most of these phones force people to upgrade every year to keep their applications updated. I doubt the current apps working on Google Pixel will support the phone next year.
