This was interesting for me. A top public health specialist in South Africa during the plenary address at an HIV Conference suggested that the well known South African variant of Covid 19, Beta (501Y.V2), could have originated from a patient whose immunity was suppressed because of HIV.

Quote:" [...] for all we know the original 501Y.V2 variant may have come from an immunosuppressed patient with HIV”.

Now that opens limitless possibilities. And could also explain why different communities may have different responses to the same Covid 19 vaccine? And how it only takes one person to start it all.

Quote:Karim’s thesis was reinforced by a later scientific presentation by Professor Tulio de Oliveira, who described “the possibility that immune-compromised individuals (with HIV being the biggest population in Africa) could become the source of SARS-CoV-2 and variant evolution”.

He deduced that it was “most likely that virus evolution was driven by selective pressure from an impaired antibody response (due to HIV)”.

De Oliveria added that this “highlights the possibility that immune compromised individuals (with HIV being the biggest cause of immunosuppression in Africa) could become the source of SARS-CoV-2 and variant evolution.”

More info about the science of two epidemics colliding (called a syndemic) appears below:

Quote:'This is a syndemic,' said Dr. Jonathan Li, using a term that describes the confluence of two epidemics with the potential to worsen outcomes for both.

Here is some basic info about Ivermectin:
In summary it's a drug that is used by vets for treating animals for parasitic and similar diseases. Most Governments in the world have warned their citizens to be careful to use it, and only under prescription from their doctor. The argument is that the drug has been created for use with animals, and animals are different from humans. Humans would need a different preparation of Ivermectin that has been specially prepared for humans.
There is a strong movement in South Africa who believes Ivermectin can be very effective.

Hello there,
I have some questions for you today regarding Changes in your lifestyle due to COVID-19!
The thread is basically is for some research and some general information since there are different people here from different countries!

I have some question for you:

Q1 : What Measures do you take to fight against COVID-19 to keep yourself or your family safe?
Q2: Do you regularly follow SOPS(standard operating procedure)

So, Basically i have observed many changes in my habits due to COVID-19

I automatically now avoid Physical Contact (Hugging, Handshakes) even though sometimes people make fun of it that im scared of COVID (ofc i am).
Washing hands like 25-40 times depending on how many times i open the door or touch any appliances or anything has become my habit for many months due to COVID
Using n-95 masks or good surgical masks all the time while going outside for grocery and all.

I would like to know your changes in Habits or anything
Feel free to share!

Thanks!

As the title says. How does SARS-CoV-2 affect your current job situation? Or how did it affect your previous job situation?

I'll start with my experience.

I work for a state authority. I still have my job that I have since 2016. We didn't have any short-time work periods. Nobody was laid off so far. Just the usual stuff like work contracts that expired or people that retired due to age.

In terms of work... for me and for the whole IT depatment it has increased. A lot of stress due to all the home office users and lack of devices and other resources to make everything possible as quick as possible. Although our educational branch has been basically shutdown during the first lockdown (March 2020 - August 2020) the work load has no really decreased. It feels like even more. Sometimes goes from 0 t 100 in a few hours and suddenly everyone acts super crazy about going into home office and etc. TL;DR: we have more than enough work to stay employed for a long time. Same stuff in the current lockdown that is supposed to end on the 14th Feb but most likely will be extended again.

In all the time so far I only had a single home office day in which I spent working even more than I would usually when I would be at my office... I won't get started with overtime. Have enough hours left to take off a week. Already did take days of to reduce it as I had to much overtime and that gets your issues with HR. I ended the year 2020 with 13 free vacation days left which I have planned into Jan 2021 and March 2021.

However I'm happy I'm able to keep my position and receive my full pay. Actually we even got a small bonus last year for our outstanding work during the first lockdown.

I was quite horrified yesterday, while listening to a BBC interview with Airport Directors, that it is still not certain whether when someone has the vaccine administered that that person can't pass on (shed) the virus. I had been unaware (due to Government propaganda to get citizens to vaccinate) that a person who has had the vaccine shot, could still be infectious - Governments conveniently or on purpose leave this out of their propaganda speeches. Governments don't even know exactly what the duration of the vaccine is. And when it should be repeated. So I guess even if one is vaccinated it's even more important to still follow all of the health protocols for Covid 19, to prevent infection.

The Airport Director interview and discussion was about the lack of uniformity among countries for rules regarding Covid 19 air travel into countries. Every country has different rules which makes airport administration for Covid 19 very problematic, confusing and costly to implement.

Bottom line for the vaccine is the vaccine is just to set the body up to fight the Corona Virus - the infection is still there and there is a chance it can be passed on. It's not even perfectly predictable whether the vaccine is going to work for the particular individual as no two persons are the same. There are always the exceptions to the rule. There is a chance the body could see the vaccine as a threat and fight the vaccine. So now what about those exceptions to the rule - how would they know they are the exceptions - how would any one know? And how infectious are individuals who have been vaccinated who are under the false impression they are OK because they were vaccinated against the virus? And maybe they're not? For me it would be logical it would make spread the virus more.

Hello there, I was scrolling down on FB and i found out a video that there has been a new Variant of COVID-19 in UK, The video was so made weirdly i ignored it but when i started digging it up i actually think it is now scary though

The new variant has not been only found in UK but also in Netherlands , Belgium , Australia and many others, People have started to make memes and naming it "COVID 2.0 which is not funny though. The UK Prime Minister also said that this new Variant may be upto 70% more transmissible than the old one. The new Variant is being called VUI-202012/01 "Variant Under Investigation". Many different countries have imposed ban on travelers from UK and have restricted all the flights real quick. The news says that the new variant is not deadly as the old one, But when COVID-19 started it was not deadly at first though every country thought it will only cause a flu and so, Are we at a huge risk now? If it spreads at a really quick rate then it would be matter of months it would spread globally.

What would be your opinion on it? If anyone here who lives in UK i would also love to hear from him that what things you are getting to hear about this new Variant?

I've just been checking the Coronavirus Update (Live) Global stats Website. Wow! I remember when I first looked at it during April May this year, and there were just total cases, active cases and deaths. They now seem to have wakened up to the statistic of how many cases per total population, etc. etc.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

At any rate, when I looked at the total active cases these are the top 10 with the most active cases:

1 USA 2,529,118
2 India 977,802
3 Brazil 631,163
4 France 253,942 635
5 Russia 168,008
6 Peru 132,918
7 Mexico 125,844
8 Argentina 125,447
9 Colombia 93,410 863
10 Bangladesh 92,144

These are the 10 countries with the greatest number of deaths:

1 USA 198,143
2 Brazil 131,274
3 India 78,727
4 Mexico 70,604
5 UK 41,623
6 Italy 35,603
7 France 30,910
8 Peru 30,593
9 Spain 29,747
10 Iran 23,157

I don't believe in the accuracy of total number of cases, but for what it is worth here are the 10 countries with the greatest number of cases:

1 USA 6,677,616
2 India 4,764,786
3 Brazil 4,315,858
4 Russia 1,062,811
5 Peru 722,832

Hey,

So this news is a bit old but I couldn't see any topic related to this and I think this was huge news considering It was one of the first approved vaccines(maybe even the first?) in the world. So Putin basically approved of the vaccine saying that It had qualified all of the necessary checks and to prove that It was usable he even got his own daughter injected with the vaccine. That alone to me is a bold move, no one can dare claim that Putin is bluffing.

WHO has been in talks with the russian government over taking a review of this new vaccine.

What do you guys think about this? Can we really trust Russia with their vaccines? Can we trust Russia's tests and data? What sort of undiscovered side effects may be present in the vaccine? (Considering It has only been tested in a small amount of people).

Really interested to read about your views on this

Hello there,
Hoping that everyone is doing good and fine in this pandemic!
I'm opening this thread i have an upcoming assignment so i thought it would be much better hearing people opinion on this question. In Pakistan prices of important grocery items like, Oil , Rice , pulses , milk , sugar etc have gone up too really high. Like now in just 5000PKR you barely have things back in 2018 or start of 2019. If you go to shopping with 5000PKR you usually get stuff for around 1 month like milk etc etc. But, Now if you add 2-3 things you barely have something in your trolley.

1. Sugar price just risen up from 70RS to 110RS
2. Oil pricing increased from 700 to 1200 depending on the store
3. Hand sanitizers literally from 150rs to 1200RS which is insane.

We don't have much increase in petrol and gas, But still most of the people are staying in door.

I would like to know have the pricing increased in different parts of the world?

Regards,

This study published in a very important journal says,

if even half the population wear good masks carefully, then it will have enough overall impact to halt the exponential growth in patient numbers.

https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/f....2020.0376

So our question is, what constitutes a good mask then ?

here is a study that says stitched quilting cotton fabric face mask is best in stopping the tiny droplet jets.

https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/5.0016018

it uses two layers. I read somewhere that WHO is recommending to use 3 layers.

so now you know the material.

about design... it should match with your face as best as possible to minimize air getting in n out through the sides. so face hugging designs are better.

please don't use those tiny bands of clothes with elastic bands on both ends. they are shyte.

here is a Washington post link with great DIY mask design guide.
EDIT. PLEASE DON'T USE MUSKS WITH VALVE. the valve let's you exhale easily. but it increases risk for others. musk is meant to protect those wearing it as well as others around them.

Hi everyone,

A big study has conclusively proved that hydroxychloroquine and azythromycin is not helping COVID patients recover faster. in spite of all the hoopla around including breast thumping of a certain yellow baboon ( he even claims that he takes it regularly to keep the virus away... !! ) anyways...

that was sad. it seemed a good candidate to lessentlessen sufferings by reducing symptoms and severity of the immune response. also keeping at bay the secondary bacterial infections of your lungs and body after it has been ravaged by this damned virus.

i recently came across a news that some reputed doctors from Bangladesh are using a certain anti-parasitic medication and getting spectacular response....

i read that it was combination of Ivermectin and Doxycycline for COVID-19 treatment.

It was a couple of days back and could not find any updates on this. can anyone there comment on this ?
