Raspberry Pi Ideas
#1
I know that there is similar thread but I want to see your ideas using Raspberry as something what can help (or be a toy). In few days I will get my Pi and I want to use it as dvd player (connect TV and play films) and as local server with 500GB disk to store important files and share them locally but Im interested how else can I use it. Any ideas/tips?

no you cant . raspberry pi is ARM based and normal PC is x86 based . and also there are no XP for raspberry pi anyway . so the only way you can put autosurf on raspberry pi is find auto surf viewer that is browser based or auto surf viewer that available for linux . for example hitleap viewer have a linux version maybe that will work with raspberry pi

the nearest thing to put windows xp to raspberry pi is through emulation and emulation require massive amount of processing power and because of that i dont think the slow raspberry pi will be able to handle the emulation

Emulating anything on rp is bad idea because of the specs, for auto surf you can try to find something made for pi or use browser based surfers it would be the best option imo.

Raspberry Pi is very good for home personal server.
You can use it as a cheap, but professional NAS powered by Linux.
And it consume less than 5W which is very low.

yes it is vey low . you can even power it with microusb charger and the power consumption making that it is fell that isnt even exist . and even if you add the hard drive you probably still get less than the most NAS power average
