Amazon Affiliate Site
#21
@Nova

If you have never done this before then in reality you need to take a different approach than the standard one. There is where so many newbies fail. If you look at 100 Amazon affiliate tutorials you will find 99 of those have same flow, same basics.

01. Find a great Product from Amazon
02. Check if keywords can easily ranked in Google
03. Get Domain, Hosting and Content
04. Set your Wordpress site.
05. Start building content and also do the SEO stuff.

This is a great setup for someone who know little bit about the process or for a newbie who is determined to get there no matter what. But most newbies have doubts, they worry and they get distracted. They want to see quick money and after 3 months working their asses of if there is not a dime earned they get totally disappointed and give up.

For an average newbie the most important thing is earning their first dollar or even first 50 cents. Seeing money in your account does amazing things. It puts your motivation on Steroids. So first thing to do is finding cheapest and the most easy item to sell. This item could have only $5 and you might only get 20 cent per sale but the point is you will get getting those 20 cents. Also there you can test traffic sources and various ad placements and everything. Once you are confidant and start understanding the whole thing then you go for the kill. You invest money to get domain, hosting, content and whatever your project needs. This is when you will able to follow all those cool tutorials without making a mess.

There is another thing you should know. getting an Amazon or AdSense account is not easy as it used to be. Years ago when I applied for Amazon I just as a blogpost and for AdSense I got the account for brand new 5 page site. Not anymore. These AdSense approve only old sites which has been around at least 6 months. As for Amazon they let you register and use their ads but they approve your account only after when you start making sales. Then they will do a manual audit on your site and let you know if you are good to go. So these things need a preparation too.

Not aware of these because I got my accounts approved years ago. At that time AdSense had already been requiring websites older than 6 months. But for Amazon, there was no manual audit or phone verification at that time.

Anyway, I am not focusing on Amazon anymore, and now only work hard for AdSense. Because I found the sales conversion rate of my Amazon links were just too low. It appears to me that it's just not worth my time to play with that Amazon Affiliate program. Too much efforts for little rewards.

For me Amazon works better than Google Adsense. Like 6 years back Google AdSense was converting great. We used to get crazy 1$-2$ clicks so often. But now most clicks are below 25c. Advertisers has found better platforms to use than Adword. So not that much competition these days. Publishers earn less because of that.

Amazon is a totally different animal. You need to take a well planned approach when you are going to start a website targeting Amazon. You earn per sale and usually only traffic from specific location converts. So it you use Amazon.com then Traffic from USA is what matters to use at begin. You have to make sure majority of your traffic from there and then you need to make sure it's buyers rather than clickers and viewers. Also you need to convince your traffic to take a look at Amazon sales pages and also push them to buy it right away. So you need a more through planning and a long term approach.

So both Amazon and AdSense are in same level ? When it comes to newbie friendliness and easy to use. Problem with Amazon is we have to register in each site if we are to use traffic of all countries.

These days pretty much yeah. Problem with Amazon is first, you need to focus on one country like Amazon.com / USA. But the good new is last week Amazon introduce a method to use All Amazon sites with linking method. Still you have to register in all those sites but now Amazon has made that easy too. You have to register for Amazon.ca and then Amazon.co.uk and once you do the uk site they let use use those info to sign up automatically into all other EU sites.
