It is Android which is redefining the market. People find it absurd to pay for software with apps and OS both free on Android.

Android has taking the lead from Microsoft long back. And, with more people investing on mobile devices than PC, it is hard to ignore the business policy Google is promoting.
Thanks  @Post4VPS

I'm sure that Windows will be free. At least in unofficial way. Such as they give you the full registered, genuine Windows 10, if you have a pirated Windows 7-8-8.1 before, all you have to do is run the upgrade process.
They try to do everything to stop people to switch to OSX or Linux.
But based on a new research every fourth American will switch to OSX in 2018. And that's a huge number even it will less than 25%.

It's a profitable Business so they will only do any free release only if it benefit their profits. Like offering free upgrades and many free OS for their own devices like smart phones and Tabs.

Few years ago before Windows 10 release I've read that they were thinking about making Windows open source, but I dont think that its profitable for them.

Well, the fact that Microsoft does not enforce activation in Windows 10, means that fewer people need to use an insecure activator, thus making the OS safer for more people, even people who do not plan to pay for Windows. By making the whole OS free, MS needs to get their income from somewhere else (spyware/ advertisements?)

They are getting money from license, believe me. Big company pay to get license for Windows and other programs for example WinRAR.

I don't Microsoft will make their operating systems ever free as they need money to operate their servers and development which comes from royalties and selling their products.
Thank you VPSlices and Post4VPS for your beautiful VPS!

Why would it be free? The packages that come with windows costs alot development wise so there's no way Microsoft would release something which costed them so much for free..Especially as they frequently update it twice a year with more new programs
Thanks to ShadowHosting and Post4VPS for my VPS 5!
