Hello folks, I am very irritated of windows 10 updates.Windows 10 software updates install on your device automatically whether you like it or not,I saw most of the people searching for stop windows 10 update. So after trying different methods i found a number of methods to disable windows 10 automatic updates.Microsoft windows is very fast as compared to other versions of windows. But most of the windows users hate windows 10 because of the automatic updates. It starts downloading our data and slow down the internet. So today i am going to share some methods to disable windows 10 updates. If you are using windows 10 pro its easy to overtake on automatic updates.
Lets start it step by step.

1st: Open start and type run into the search bar or simply press windows key + R.It will open run command.
2nd:Type in bar " gpedit.msc " and Click Ok.It will open the local group policy editor.
3rd: Browse the folder " Computer Configuration "
4th: Under computer configuration " Administrative Templates "
5th: Under Administrative Templates " Windows Component "
6th: Than open browser " Windows Update "
Here is full path
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update

7th: On the right side, double-click the " Configure Automatic Updates "
8th: It will opne the Configure Automatic Updates. On the left side click the Enable option to enable the policy.
9th: Under Options, you'll find a number of ways to configure automatic updates
2 - "Notify for download and notify for install."

3 - "Auto download and notify for install."

4 - "Auto download and schedule the install."
5 - "Allow local admin to choose setting."
You should select the update option which you want to configure. If we select the option 4 we can specify exactly when to install windows updates.
10th: Click The Apply Button.
11th: Click Ok to complete the task.

Disable The Windows 10 Update Via Registry

Note: It will be very risky.it can damage to windows or your hard drive.

1st: Open start and type run into the search bar or simply press windows key + R.It will open run command.

2nd:Type in bar " regedit " and Click Ok.It will open the registry editor.

3rd: Browser the path.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE  ->  SOFTWARE -> Policies -> Microsoft -> Windows

4th: Right Click on the windows folder and click new and than chose Key.
5th: Rename the NewKey with "WindowsUpdate"
6th: Right Click on the WindowsUpdate ( newly created key ) and click new and chose Key.
7th: Name the new key as " AU "
8th: Right click the key " AU " and new and chose " DWORD ( 32BIT ) Value..
9th: Name the new key "AUOption"
10th: Double click the key and change its value using one of the option.
2 - "Notify for download and notify for install."
3 - "Auto download and notify for install."
4 - "Auto download and schedule the install."
5 - "Allow local admin to choose settings."
Complete the task by clicking the Ok button and close the Registry Editor.
The best choice is option 2.If you change the value to 2 windows will notify you to download the updates. If you want to download the windows update you can download it using your pc settings in Update and Security section.

Another way

Open Start.
Search for gpedit.msc and select the top result to launch the experience.
Navigate to the following path:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update

Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy on the right side.
Check the Disabled option to turn off the policy.
Click the Apply button.
Click the OK button.
Once you complete the steps, Windows 10 will stop downloading updates automatically.

While automatic updates remains disabled, you can still download and install patches manually from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and clicking the Check for updates button.

If you change your mind, you can always revert the changes using the same instructions, but on step No. 5, make sure to select the Not Configured option.

Thanks for reading.

Regards

Rehan.

@Rehan It is really annoying when updates authomatically downloaded even if you dont want too, but updating your system makes your pc become more secure. Best way is maybe you can set the date/time to update, and a reminder will notify you when update time needs to be downloaded.

but you need to do that every time . the best solution is to disable update completely but you need update to install graphic driver . but if you already installed it just disable it completely windows update

I'm still on Windows 7 but have the same dilemma. I can't put my Windows on automatic updates, as Microsoft updates conflict with my VPN. It also conflicts with other security systems. Not sure whether this is Microsoft's way of getting rid of its opposition in security systems and VPNs, but the last time I downloaded its security roll up it almost brought my Windows to its knees and I was completely unable to use my VPN. I had to use the Windows update backup system to roll back the backups to the previous update date - that fortunately is available on Windows 7 but get the feeling it's not available on Windows 10. You can't roll back the installation date. Bottom line, my Windows is unprotected now. Microsoft updates have become a threat in its own right - like I'm in trouble if I load the updates and I'm also in trouble if I don't.

So I definitely welcome anyone who makes suggestions how to disable updates - fully knowing that that is against my own interest as I'm not fully protected, but if it completely brings my computer system to freezing point, what else am I supposed to do? It's almost as though those socalled security updates are a threat to my computer. Microsoft wants to create a one size fits all Windows and updates in a world that doesn't work that way - we need to have the power to fix things when the updates don't work - however Microsoft doesn't want us to have the power to fix things when there are problems. I so wish we could get an alternative for Microsoft, or someone really good who could figure out a work around to getting the security updates without the conflicts that can come with it.

No, you don't need Windows Update to update any of the hardware drivers. You're not even supposed to let Windows handle driver installations... It usually installs old drivers and sometimes additional stuff that you would have normally deselected during installation of the drivers (like Nvidia's 3D features when you don't even have a 3D screen or Nvidia Geforce Experience).

You are supposed to get the latest drivers from the websites of the companies that made the different hardware parts you have in your PC. If it is a prebuilt PC you can usually get half decent drivers from the company that made the PC on their homepage. For graphics drivers always go the page of the GPU company and download the newest drivers.

Nvidia: https://www.geforce.com/drivers
AMD: https://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product...cs-Drivers

@Rehan

I would also suggest to run "services.msc" in the run dialog (Windows + R button combination) and disable all related services to Windows Updates.

a) Windows Update
b) Update Orchestrator Service for Windows Update

Edit the services and set them to Disabled and shut them down. Save the settings. Reboot. You might see notifications coming from Windows that Windows Updates services are disabled --> IGNORE THEM.
