Maybe I'm not being clear.

When is the giveaway?

The thread that I read said it was usually around the 28th of the month. There was no giveaway notice on the 28th of November. Now, it's a new month - and I don't have those 20 points. So, if they give away the VPS on the 7th, I'm probably not going to have this month's required 20 points.

That's where I'm confused. Does that make any more sense?
you need to have 25 total posts minimum to own. so you need not worry. you can take part , compete and win a good one. im sure.

now you need to do at least 20 new each month to keep it. so you have the whole month available to do 20 which you can easily do.

it does not matter that you have 4 now as monthly count. what matters now is you have more than 25 as total count. but if you win one, you will have to bring the monthly count to 20 at least to keep it in the next month too. for that you get the whole month to do posting.
Sincere Thanks to VirMach for my VPS9. Also many thanks to Shadow Hosting and cubedata for the experiences I had with their VPSs.

Alright. I thought I had to have 20 or 25 the month of the giveaway.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm set as far as post counts go. LOL I'm pretty fond of gabbing like an old lady and will babble about most any subject, even if it's just to learn about that subject.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I wasn't going to request a VPS, 'cause I won't be able to do much until January, but I have since been convinced to request one anyhow. As I plan on working on a clone of Reddit, I'll need as much RAM and CPU as I can get. So, I'll apply for the bigger VPS and then not be unhappy if I don't get it the first time around.

'Tis the holiday season and I'm going to be pretty busy for the month.

When you apply only look at your number of posts and the dollar credit at the bottom of your profile.  Ignore the rest of the info in the profile.  They're for those who have VPSs and have to make their 20 monthly posts.

The Giveaway is supposed to be on the 1st of the month and allocation of VPSs is made by the 10th, but if the Giveaway Manager has a time constraint - which is most of the time - the Giveaway happens later in the month.  None of us have perfect expectations. We just wait until the Giveaway is announced and apply for the VPS we want.  And then let it come to us in the fullness of time.

I'm almost dead certain that since there has been an increase in the number of new VPS Plans (we got three added in addition to VPS 5 of last month), that there is a great chance that even with being new and having a lower credit, that you still stand a chance for a VPS.  If not, it is fun to apply and you just try again when the next Giveaway is announced.

If you have time, check out the Dynamo's template below for how to apply and you'll then see that it's the total number of posts you've made and the dollar credit number that you should focus on.  The rest is just to make the administration and vetting of the 20 monthly posts to keep the VPS easier.

Yeah, I've seen the template but it didn't really answer my questions. Someone got 'em above - the Try4VPS person got me squared away.

And, I figure I'll apply. If I don't get one, it's okay - I wasn't gonna be doing much this month anyhow. I would barely have time to get it set up and maybe get it secured and updated. Hell, I haven't even decided on a control panel for it.

I don't actually have anything constructive to do with it, so I'm going to poke at a Reddit clone and do some development. It'll help keep me busy over the winter months. I don't get to go outside much, 'cause crutches and snow don't really get along.
