Can anyone recommend a good VNC viewer?
#1
Today for the first time I've been using my Contabo VPS.  I tried to change the port number of my VPS first, as there were thousands of previous login attempts.  I then got locked out.  Contabo alternative for getting into the VPS without Putty is VNC, but I've got no experience with VNC.  They recommended UltraVNC and then said not to install the server.  So I downloaded UltraVNC and unticked install server - so just the viewer was ticked.  There was also a repeater that was in the tick list.  I ticket that as well as I thought it went with the viewer.  Anyway, after installation of UltraVNC viewer when I entered my VNC information nothing would work.  So I removed the software.

Can any one recommend a simple and also safe VNC viewer.  Thanks.

Note later: I managed to get into my VPS again by reinstalling the OS. Wow, with Contabo it takes very long to reinstall the OS. Anyway, I then was able to use Port 22 again, and then after that managed to successfully change the Port Number. I still would like to know about the VNC though.

I don't recommend it!
I prefer NoMachine instead of VNC because of the support of UDP Protocol in its presence and also stable

UltraVNC is a good VNC client/VNC viewer. I always used it when I needed to gain access to VNC for KVM VPSs that was provided in SolusVM prior to the release of the browser builtin HTML5 VNC viewer "noVNC".

Safe is a thing. VNC isn't safe. It's not encrypted by design. FreeNX 2Go is encrypted by design through the SSH server of your VPS. I believe NoMachine might also have encryption.

Think I'm going to listen to @"Hidden Refuge" advice and treat VNC with great caution. I've made note of the preferred VNC software, but am going to stick with SSH for now anyway.

Since I'm going to be traveling at end of April, I need to keep it simple and portable too. Putty is great for traveling.

Since I don't need more suggestions than these, will close the thread. If someone else feels they want to make a contribution and want me to reopen the thread. Please PM me.
