Anyone Collect Stamps or Coins here ?
#21
@tryp4vps Actually the good thing about stamps / coins or paintings is these never loose value. Unlike things like shares or real estate these stuff keep getting a higher value regardless the state of economy. Funny thing is in certain countries every stamp become at least 2x the face value after 2 years. That's the minimum. But this doesn't work for all counties. Also then there are limited special stamp sets. But again I understand you have no clue about this market so generic recommendation would be this won't work. But that goes for everything. Without knowing what you are buying, how long you keeping and to whom you are selling, an investment won't work at all.

Thing about stamps / coins / paintings is you can't liquidate these fast and easy since it's not everyone's cup of tea. But when you know right place and buyer it can be highly profitable. But it needs years of experience and passion of it. You need to have a fascination and understanding. After a while you develop an instinct what to buy, when on which price. Then how long you keep it, whom to sell on which price. Good example is Thailand kings funeral stamps set issued in last August. They had planned to issue 3 million stamp sets and got 1.5 million pre-orders. Rest were all sold out by end of October. Most of these were sold to Thai collectors but outsiders like us able to grab small quantities too. face value is 99 bhat which means like 3 usd. Now it's sold for 10 usd minimum after 6+ months.

I know there are countries stamps have no value at all. For example most of modern stamps of African countries. or most of current stamps of India or China because these were printed in 100's of millions. But even in these countries there are plenty of old stamps which are so rare and can be sold for thousands of usd.
