I always preferred Intel against AMD, but since Intel has this security and performance issue then I'd rather buy an AMD CPU in 2018.

Intel, since I want the maximum performance out of my game. Yea AMD multicore isn't bad but I care more about single core performance than multi core since thta's what the game prefer. I have my doubts about the current Intel because of their scummy business practice and Spectre and Meltdown.

AMD was good a few years ago but Intel is the best when gaming and for any normal usage. AMD is only good for heavy graphic games etc.

@Kururin
Yes, single core performance is important for games right now. But in the future, games will lean on multi core systems as single core performance aren't really improving today.
The few FPS lost on slightly slower single core perf is worth it since you will be able to run apps in the background without impacting your games. (Streaming? Discord? Browsers? etc.)

@Vuluts
Spectre and Meltdown. + it's mitigations in OS kernels. I think.

@Golden
What you said is completely false. AMD isn't only good for games with heavy graphics. It's mostly the work of the GPU.
As for normal usage, there wouldn't be any real world differences between the AMD's and Intel's latest CPUs. Who cares about the 9% IPC difference if you're just browsing the web right?
As for gaming, the difference is so low :3

,The latest intel i7 has 6 cores, which is plenty for me & futureproof. I do not need 1000 cores to run muti-threaded games.

This Spectre and Meltdown. + it's mitigations in OS kernels issue only applies with new Intel processors?

AMD because of the price.
AMD Ryzen 3 1300X @ 3.6GHz 4 cores 4 threads is what I'm going to be getting for my PC build this summer.

AMD is cheaper for sure. Are you going to build your own computer? Which motherboard do you use?

In 2018, AMD hands down. With tuned memory, the singlecore is the same as an 8700k (before OC of course) but you get a lot of threads for cheap.
It's on an expansive platform that has support until 2020, and every chip is unlocked if you wish to OC.
