Does cPanel worth the price ?
#21
I prefer to have a hosting control.panel than using command prompt. also with a panel i can let others to use hosting space too.

well it is worth the price if you need the familiarity and simplicty of cpanel also if you want to sell a shared hosting but for me i think i better just use terminal and go yum install apache or sudo apt-get php or something and then i get myself a web server

if you cannot really use terminal in daily basis you can try to install alternative control panel like Vesta control panel or Sentora (previously called zPanel) those alternatives one i see actually decent . its worth a try if you dont want to play with terminal alot

cPanel price also isnt cheap . for vps you need 20 USD / month and for dedicated you need 40 USD / Month for just cPanel itself . but with terminal or other alternative control panel it is free

Does cPanel worth the price? that will depends on your needs and preferences, but if you want to run a free control panel I suggest VestaCP alternatively, or learn and study the terminal commands.

When you control more than dozen websites it's better have a control panel. Because you can keep it clean and have less problems. Lets say if you are Web Designer then it's better to have a vps with a hosting control panel because it makes your life easier. cPanel is good if your clients need access to their web hosting accounts. Probably it's the most easy one of use out of all commercial and free web hosting control panels. But if you do all the stuff then you can use a free panel.

I use VirtualMin which I have found really good and reliable. Along with Ubuntu, this combo has given me best free web hosting control panel experience. I haven't mastered it yet but I have learned enough to use it without having any problems.

I think it doesn't matter it is a vps or not. The whole point is that if it is only for personal use (i.e.: only you use it) then it is really no need to install cPanel. Not only because cPanel is quite costly, but after all, learning to config your websites manually inside terminal is a must for all serious webmasters.

But if it is not just for your personal use (i.e.: you want to run a hosting business), then probably you should go for cPanel because your customers would always expect a control panel that they can easily play with.

cPanel may not worth if you are hosting for yourself. You can use various free control panels. If you own a hosting company, you can go for it. Even some companies use free control panels. If you have a VPS, there are lots of free stuffs you get with it. Wink
