Google has taught the world an entirely new business model. If Microsoft were running Google, we would have been paying for each search. Microsoft makes money from not just Windows. MS Office is a huge money spinner for them. There are also other projects like One Drive, Office 360 etc

Google and Apple make money from their app stores as well. That is one reason they give a lot of things for free.
Thanks  @Post4VPS

That is not such a farfetched idea.  As long as Microsoft can make sure they get your credit card and personal contact information however.  Microsoft will always make sure there is something it it for them.  So they will pretend they're free but at the same time make you pay for services.  They may even make one pay for updates like some software companies are doing.  Like they let you buy their software license for a year, and then if one wants the updates, one pays X dollars for the next year, or one goes without the updates.

I don't think they will ever do that, but you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free anyways (download the disabled people .iso for free).

I do not think windows will be provided for free in anytime soon, even though there are free upgrades, windows still receives lot of amount by activation, and it is their bussiness.

Thank you  Sweet

I'm not so sure about it.  How about the free Graphical User Interface (GUI)'s from Linux like Zorin?  Like that looks very much like a copy of Windows for me, and it is free.  It still has a long way to go to be as convenient as Microsoft Windows and Apple, but it's a good start.  Hopefully one of these days I can try it for myself.

Here is a review of Zorin 12 to give one a good feel of how like Windows it is:

I agree with @deanhills That If you want something Windows like and genuine then go for Zorin. It's an Linux OS but petty much looks like Windows.
