For managing tar.gz files in command line the easiest solution is Midnight commander:

i downloaded the mc. now how can i unzip the .gz file

Simply start Midnight Commander with the 
Terminal
sudo mc
command, and then use it like the TotalCommander on Windows.
You can open ta.gz files as it were like normal directories.

@OldMeister : your Posts looks like you are just a beginner. try to google first for some useful commands for linux vps. and learn how to use Putty or any ssh client.

someone? answer? by the way i typed sudo mc and it didnt unzip the package... i want to open this .gz file

sorry for double posting but i have a request @Dynamo. please close this topic and im turning off the vps... im tierd of messing with linux... i thought i will get windows vps... anyway my requests are: close this topic and i want to request next month a windows vps. can i get one?
