DigitalOcean 512MB RAM VPS Review

Introduction
I have been using DigitalOcean for hosting my primary webserver since April 2014. I then received the GitHub Education which includes $100 free credits on DigitalOcean, so I host there for free  Cool

Well, those specs look great  Smile
Unfortunately the benchmark script didn't finish... for some weird reason.
Look at that Xeon E5! Really nice CPU.

I/O Speed

I/O (1st run)   : 305 MB/s
I/O (2nd run)   : 338 MB/s
I/O (3rd run)   : 304 MB/s
Average I/O     : 333 MB/s
Yeah, those speeds rock! However not really the SSD speeds I reach here at home, but they're fine for usage. Still faster than a lot of HDD VPS servers.

Control Panel

The control panel of DigitalOcean is very simple and contains a lot of features. Not only you can manage your full server, but they also take care of hosting your DNS using CloudFlare's anycast network Big Grin

Suggestions

Not really. However I would like to have the ability to add/ remove storage and IPs.

Final Ratings
The VPS is very good. Not only for development, I also run a production environment there. I really want to pay for the server when I am out of free credit. It's totally worth it.

Final Rating 9/10

Special thanks to TrK, since I used his review as a "template" for mine.

Final Rating 9/10, that is great to see.Are you hosting a blog like small website?
Is a webserver running?
How much visitors you have?

Thank you  Sweet

I don't host any personal site. I host websites from clients. So yes, a webserver is running, else no website would be available :')
I don't know about the stats, but I don't think those are amazing huge workloads (like 10.000 or so)...

I use my own control panel, in combination with a reverse proxy and load balancers to provide a good experience to my visitors.

Ah, okay. I might not have expressed myself correctly. Those people are not really clients, I provide hosting for free. But I see those people as they were paying customers. So they can expect a high uptime. (To be more exact: one hour and 2 minutes last 11 months Big Grin)

@RickB Pretty nice, where can I sign up? Tongue

What is this custom control panel you use? Can I have a demo, or even better a link to the source code on GitHub?
