eu.org provides you sub domains, not top level domain names. Also these can take a month or 2 to get your request approved. Still those are much safer than Freenom domains.

If know right then EU.ORG is not open to new registrations anymore but current users can use their domain names.
But it's not that safe as you buy a real domain name. They can fully close anytime. But for hobby projects it's the best.

They are still taking sub domain requests. It's just they take long time to process these. They must be getting massive amount of requests.
