Can you declare your title "Is mongo useless?"? Even though I do not use Mongo myself, I know a few people who use Mongo and they're happy with it.
Mongo is suited for more than just chat rooms!! Please take a look at some of these example use-cases:

Useless? I don't think so. A lot of website are using mongodb.
One time I needed it but I couldn't configure it and after that I don't like mongodb.

I dont think Mongo Db is useless while i am also using it so how its can be useless and many others are using for me mongo db is usefull not useless

many modern website out there use mongoDB like metlife, ebay, cisco and many more.

It's true that there are other alternatives, but it isn't useless. It depends on what do we use it for.
