Barracuda Central?
#1
Is any one familiar with Barracuda Central? I don't have a mail server on my new VPS 15 but appears that one must have been on the IP that has been given for my VPS.

I've applied for the IP to be removed from their black list, but wonder how serious it is to be blacklisted by them?

Maybe the previous owner of the IP address might have used it as a mail server? It depends. Maybe the VPS 15's previous hosting owner had the IP block and his customer had abused it? There are numbers of possibilities that the IP has been blacklisted due to spam mailing by previous IP owners.

Barracuda Central is serious. They're operated by Barracuda which focuses on security for businesses and such. They have security gateway solutions that incooperate their blacklists to block traffic to bad IPs and websites. Admittedly their prices for such solutions are quite high though but they have their uses and many business users.

I so far had no issues on getting IPs delisted if the malicious activity has stopped. The sites or IPs had been removed within 48 hours usually.

Thanks for this info @"Hidden Refuge".  You're right, the domain is no longer listed and that made my DNS Inspect rating jump from B rating to A.  When I submitted my IP to Barracuda for delisting I also got rid of all of the mail records that VestaCP created for me. It shows I don't have MX records. I've never used mail with this domain before so am quite curious how it ever could have got blacklisted. Anyway, am happy as looks as though the domain and IP are doing OK for now.

When I checked again it looks as though the domain was black listed (not the IP), i.e. mail.domain.net. Which has me very curious, as I've never ever in the life of the domain run a mail server before.

I then checked, and looks as though there's another domain that is similar to mine that may have been the problem.

I.e. my domain is dhwebs.net and there is also a domain called dhwebs.com. Maybe someone wanted to report mail.dhwebs.com, and by accident went for mail.dhwebs.net.

Glad your domain get unlisted from Barracuda. I never heard their name actually.
I think VPS 15 sponsor will take action too for this issue. Getting your IP blacklisted is very bad tho.
Thanks to Limitless Hosting and Post4VPS for providing me excellent VPS 13!

dang !!
I tried both dhwebs net and com. roflmfao

Running mail or name server on the same vps as the main site is a bad idea on my book. Unless it is a fly by night spam and run endeavour.

May be your domain was owned by someone previously ?

I dont really know. but it sounds silly that they would outright ban without any type of check when they receive complaints.
Sincere Thanks to VirMach for my VPS9. Also many thanks to Shadow Hosting and cubedata for the experiences I had with their VPSs.

My domain was never owned by anyone before. I'm the first owner. It's fairly new - think I created it in 2016. There has also never been a mail server on it before. When I create VestaCP I elect not to have a mail server of FTP server.

I'm not worried about the issue any longer though. The blacklisting has been lifted. @"Hidden Refuge" is right. Barracuda was quite fast in response. They didn't send me an e-mail, but it took maybe 2 days for the blacklisting to be lifted.
