What improvements do you expect in UX for 2017 ? With touch optimized devices, there is not much you can do to simplify that nested menu items. Could be bigger buttons for small screens, thumb sized icons etc

Really a great question. They are churning out 4k mobile displays now. But you can't increase the angle a picture makes in your eyes no matter what the resolution. Therefore pretty hard to improve upon what we experience with 720p screens. I think somewhere around there is where there power of our eyes got matched.
Therefore a great avenue of advancement might be vr displays and keyboards and controls. Using no controller but body movements. Just like that entrance control scene ... Remember the city of zion in matrix movies.
