VPS 3 - VPS Hosting - Review
#1

Introducion
Hello, I'm reviewing this VPS as required. Firstly, I would like to thank Post4VPS staff and VPS-Hosting.CA for providing this VPS to me. The main reason I added this VPS number to my request is because I wanted a KVM VPS. I was planning to host my personal website if I got a OpenVZ vm, but since I got this KVM VPS, I've changed my plans to use it for something else.

Specifications

Disk Space: 20 GB HDD.

RAM: 1 GB, 512mb vSwap (assigned by me, cause it isn't really needed)

Virtualization: KVM.

Monthly Traffic: unlimited.

Server Location: Ontario, Canada.

Control Panel: Unfortunately it has no control panel.

Connection: 100 Mbps (though it seems to be lil bit faster)

Yeah, specifications is enough for my needs. Though it would be better if it had a control panel, anyways that isn't really an issue.

Benchmarking

Benchmark by Hidden Refuge's benchmarking script:

jayce@vm3:~/bench$ ./bench.sh
Benchmark started on Tue Jan 10 09:25:32 EST 2017

IO is kinda low innit? I suppose it should be higher since this slows down the VPS. Don't think the internet speed is low, it's good for a 100mbps connection and a Canada located server. I don't need a higher internet speed anyways.

More IO speed tests:
jayce@vm3:~/bench$ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 30.9533 s, 34.7 MB/s

jayce@vm3:~/bench$ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 21.4673 s, 50.0 MB/s

jayce@vm3:~/bench$ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 23.468 s, 45.8 MB/s

I can't say really much because this is a free service so I guess paid customers gets the higher IO priority, however, another internet speed test:

jayce@vm3:~/bench$ ./speedtest-cli --share

Looks like the connection is faster than 100mbps, not sure why it's specified as 100mbps in the specifications thread.

My Opinion

This is a good KVM machine for personal hobbies/projects, I like it and I don't think I'll replace it in near future, however if the IO speed could be better, then it's going to be perfect. I would really rate it 8/10, but that's just my personal opinion which might change from a person to another. I guess we've came to an end, ladies and gentlemen. Big Grin

Thanks for viewing.

For VPS Panel,
In past time RJ had made a panel but looks like now when I try to install it then it give me many errors(there might be something wrong going on there).

So I decided to create one myself and here is its WIP:

@Jayce we measures uplink for the connection speed instead of downlink, to serve files at good speed a server need to have a good uplink connection. Its 100mbps because its uplink.

@Dynamo it's okay, not really an issue for me as I'm not planning to change my OS so much anyways.
@TrK Oh I get it, I thought it limits both links (up/down), , thanks for the clarifications.

You did seriously rip-off Solus it's layout? You are aware of the fact you're now using a old version of Bootstrap.. You are not going to convince me you've picked Bootstrap v2 by yourself.. v4 is already in alpha stage..

Btw, I thought VPS-Hosting was using VMWare rather than KVM?

Well, I had simplly used basic HTML structure for that table, and used some readymade login system which had that bootstrap already been put up so it's not actually rip off.

Sure... if it uses Bootstrap v2 (you say it was yet included with your login system), why do you use it, using B2 it should be really old...

Idk why but I am liking this b2 more than latest style..

Though once I would complete the panel codes, then I might* change it's framework to material design.

I like your benchmark it have good port speed which is like 100Mbps I like 1 Gbps way better than low port speed unless it have good VPS speed.
