Recently, in India, ride sharing has been made illegal. ie, you cannot advertise a taxi service with ride sharing facility. Both Uber and Ola are offering such services. I am not sure what will happen to them.
Personally, it seems to be a risky way ( though economical ) for a certain niche of passengers. Not everyone would wish to share their ride. Will you ?

I think that car sharing is a very good idea for your wallet. And it's very environment friendly because the cars consume the same amount of fuel, gasoline, diesel or electricity if they have only one passenger, the driver than they carry five.

What about the safety factor. I am not sure you have heard about things that fellow travellers do to women. They not nice to say here.
