KVM - 1GB RAM (Seaman) VPS Review
Review from FreeVPS.us

Intro
I recently acquired a decent KVM VPS from HostSailor, a 2-year-old web hosting company (providing VPSs as well as very cheap dedicated servers) that is rapidly growing and owns all of its hardware. They have donated to the CentOS-WebPanel project and their name is shown on their site (http://centos-webpanel.com/noc-partner-list). So, here's the review!!

Side Note: Their SolusVM images are pretty much stock images with no changes at all, whatsoever.
Second note: Even though it says there is swap, there is none because it's KVM.

Specs
  • 1GB RAM
  • 40GB HDD
  • 4 vCPU Cores
  • 1 Gbit Port
  • 1TB Bandwidth
  • 1 IPv4 address
  • Unlimited IPv6 addresses
  • Romania
  • KVM
Those specs aren't bad! And those Unlimited IPv6s are nice however you do not see them in SolusVM.
It has an average amount of RAM, and HDD space. 4 CPU cores is immensely useful when you're doing certain things. A 1Gbps uplink with 1TB bandwidth is also good. It's also nice being in the Romania, however some network latency is caused by me being in Detroit, Michigan. And, it's KVM!!!!

General Info

Network
Like I said, this is a server in Romania and I have quite a bit of latency (~400ms), even with my decent internet (30Mbps down, 10Mbps up). Speedtest.net:
See how HostSailor is an ISP? There you go, they own their own hardware. Their speeds are incredibly fast, even with a ST server that's 50 miles away. Their network is very reliable, with no downtime or even slowdown at all.
Now, for the FreeVPS benchmark script:
Code:
Benchmark started on Thu Nov 26 18:25:12 EST 2015
Full benchmark log: /root/bench.log

System Info
-----------
Processor       : QEMU Virtual CPU version (cpu64-rhel6)
CPU Cores       : 4
Frequency       : 2399.996 MHz
Memory          : 996 MB
Swap            : 1023 MB
Uptime          : 1:37,

OS              : CentOS release 6.6 (Final)
Arch            : x86_64 (64 Bit)
Kernel          : 2.6.32-504.23.4.el6.x86_64
Hostname        : --Redacted for Security Reasons--

Speedtest (IPv4 only)
---------------------
Your public IPv4 is --Redacted for Security Reasons--

Location                Provider        Speed
CDN                     Cachefly        53.3MB/s

Atlanta, GA, US         Coloat          13.1MB/s
Dallas, TX, US          Softlayer       8.97MB/s
Seattle, WA, US         Softlayer       7.43MB/s
San Jose, CA, US        Softlayer       7.29MB/s
Washington, DC, US      Softlayer       11.8MB/s

Tokyo, Japan            Linode          7.03MB/s
Singapore               Softlayer       5.74MB/s

Rotterdam, Netherlands  id3.net         22.8MB/s
Haarlem, Netherlands    Leaseweb        40.1MB/s

Download speeds are good, however as you may have noticed, the farther away the server is the slower the speeds are. The NL server has a surprising 40MB/s.

Disks
More from the FVPS BM script.

Code:
Disk Speed
----------
I/O (1st run)   : 611 MB/s
I/O (2nd run)   : 573 MB/s
I/O (3rd run)   : 553 MB/s
Average I/O     : 579 MB/s
The I/O is quite high for a regular old HDD.

Now for: dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
Code:
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 1.3053 s, 823 MB/s
Again over performing for an HDD, 823MB/s is faster than even an SSD!!

df -h:
Code:
Filesystem      Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/vda1        39G  1.8G   35G   5% /
tmpfs           499M     0  499M   0% /dev/shm

Now, with those tests you can clearly tell that their disks are blazingly fast, even faster than the 2 Intel 480GB SSDs (RAID1) in my NAS!

CPU
This VPS comes with a decent quad core 2nd gen Xeon processor running at 2.40GhZ. This processor WILL NOT be killed by ANY amount of stressing (bitcoin miners?)
Info from lscpu:

Code:
Architecture:          x86_64

Control Panel
This VPS comes with SolusVM:

It does not lack in features, however the interface is not as good as Virtualizor in my opinion.

Conclusion
This VPS is very good, with high I/O speeds, a bunch of fast CPU cores, and decent amount of RAM. There could be more RAM, however for the price it is a very good deal!

Thanks for reading this, and have a great day Smile

Many users were complaining because Microsoft deletes Windows 10 users' applications without permission or approval.

The official statement is that the programs were no longer compatible with the latest version of the system. They wanted to prevent system crashes. The problem is not with it, but the method, meaning that the company did it without a question.
However, Microsoft has already indicated that it is included in the ToS (Terms of Service) to remove programs considered as dangerous.

They removed programs from users PCs such as system information, monitoring tools CPU-Z and Speccy, and the video card software AMD Catalyst Control Center.

VPS 6 Review
[Image: logo.png]

Introduction
VPS 6 is sponsored by GalaxyHostPlus which was founded in 2014 by Janusz Czeropski.
Their profile included shared webhosting, reseller hosting, game server hosting, domain registration, and of course VPS hosting.
Their headquarter is located at Carlow, Ireland.
The company leases capacity from existing data centers, including sites in Strasbourg (OVH)  and Frankfurt (GhostNet-NewColo).

Specification
Disk Space 40 GB
RAM: 768 MB & 1.5 GB vSwap
IP Addresses: 1x IPv4 & 2x IPv6
Virtualization: OpenVZ
Monthly Traffic: 600 GB
Location: [Image: fr.gif] Strasbourg, France
Control Panel: Virtualizor
Connection: 100 MBit/s
Provided by: GalaxyHostPlus
Terms: TOS & Spam Policy
Requirements: Backlinks to GalaxyHostPlus and Post4VPS are required.

Control Panel
They use Virtaulizator as a control panel. Personally I like it better than SolusVM. Large, colorful icons and easy to use interface.

Performance

The AMD Opteron 4334 CPU with two 3.1GHz cores is really powerful.
The amount of RAM is 768MB and it's enough for almost all kind of tasks, furthermore we've got 1.5GB swap too.

It has FastEthernet (100Mbps) connection, which is equal to 12.5MB/s.
The download speed from Atlanta, USA is terrible. It was too low, so I run this test with other European VPSs from other providers and they all get the same low results. So this is not GalaxyHostPlus' fault, Coloat is the guilty.
The download speed is around 10MB/s for most countries, which is very good.
The speed from Dallas (USA) and from Netherlands are even better than a 100Mbit/s connection should have to.

The 88 MB/s I/O speed is good too from a regular hard disk drive.

Speedtest.net
It has amazing network speeds in Europe.

Support:
Well, I don't know that how fast or helpful they are because I have never have to get in contact with them, because there were no problems at all. And I think this is the best support when everything just works.
Furthermore they offer 24/7 technical support not only in English, but in Polish language too.

I'm looking for a good mobile text editor app like Notepad. Right now I use one called NoteEverything and Google Docs. NoteEverything is pretty good and simple but it's very very simple. Google Docs is okey but most of it's functions doesn't work offline.

Do you guy use any editor apps ?

First I have to say this was first post a freevps.us by Gooliver. So full credits goes to him for discovering and posting this. I thought it's good to share this here too before the provider ends this offer.

01) It's a French site so you will need to translate things.

02) If doesn't matter which country you select, what matters is phone number. You should receive the sms instantly.

03) Using your 5 Euro credits you can pick lowest package which  u can keep 4 months or other bigger packages.

04) Lowest package's internet speed is 10Mbps so it's not great but good enough for testing things.

05) As for payment method select the last one , Crédits Nodilex (Allopass, Neosurf, etc)

* link removed by staff *

You can see the package list in image below.

Anyone heard of geoscaling?
They provide scriptable DNS output.
They use PHP for scripting.

I used it to make a "geo"-targeted DNS

Hi guys,

What is your opinion about adding some kind of marketplace category in this forums?
It would be nice to be able to trade with each other. Though the points system doesn't has that much value...

Regards,

Rick

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know after 5 years of loyal service, my laptop/notebook (whatever you wanna call it) died.
Since I don't own a pc anymore, I unfortunately can't be as active as I were last time.

Just wanted to let you know so that you know I don't leave this community, actually, surprisingly I quite like it here, I will just be less active.

Kind Regards,

Rick
