Error 404 (Not Found) means that the file(s) or folder(s) that the APT package manager was looking for are no longer existing on the server.

And the current situation on the server is indeed how the error describes it. The directory "jessie-updates" doesn't exist on that Debian package server mirror. There is only the folder "jessie".

The reason for that is most likely that Jessie has become "Oldstable" now. Meaning it is being kind of archived as Debian "Stretch" 9 is the latest stable Distro. What that means... of course they're reorganizing the mirror servers.

You need to update your /etc/apt/sources.list with new mirrors from https://pastebin.com/RBQV42Uh

@sagher
i would like the output of 'uname -a'

also comment out all the source links. you dont need them. then purge cache and run again. 'apt-get clean'

also check
/etc/resolv.conf

it should have good name servers. like

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 1.1.1.1

ensure that. then check
'ping google.com'

also make sure port 21, 53, and 80 are open in firewall.
may be do a 'ufw disable' and then try.

replying from mobile. so didnt notice the hits. you dont need to do what i said above. Just keep the links that is successfully connecting and comment out others. I mean all those with error (E) and ignored (Ign). Also commeng out thd source links. src

next clean it.

apt-get clean

now run update.

Actually, I have no idea what the heck Debian developers are currently doing but so far pretty much any mirror lacks the "oldstable-updates" / "jessie-updates" folders and the "jessie-backports" folders. So about this sources there isn't much you can do other than comment out all lines that have jessie-backports, jessie-updates or oldstable-updates in them.

The sources.list should look like this after that:
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ oldstable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ oldstable main contrib non-free

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-security oldstable/updates main
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian-security oldstable/updates main

Run apt-get clean all after that and then do apt-get update. See if there are still any errors.

God knows what exactly is happening on the mirror servers that the "oldstable-updates" / "jessie-updates" and "jessie-backports" repos aren't available at the moment.
