NoMachine is more a client for NX based remote access servers. You need to install a NX server, desktop environment and window manager on your Linux server to use it. However I believe that NoMachine also comes with its own NX server base.

This guide is only for NoMachine. To install a desktop environment and window manager you will need to use a different guide for your desired Linux OS.
Alternatively there is also X2Go which is based on FreeNX and it uses SSH to transport the remote session securely while being faster than most remote desktop protocols (VNC for example).
