But in fact Xiaomi is only a home appliances manufacturer. Most people are not even considering Xiaomi as a high-tech company.
So, it is quite hard to imagine it could impair the security of the U.S.
I think It is very clear to most that It was never really a problem of security but an issue of trade war. If the US was concerned about security they could simply stop Huawei from selling phones in USA, however, the move to ban Huawei from acquiring Android from Google simply crippled the company and did not allow them to continue in the trajectory they were going...
Xiaomi is clever as to not meddle with the USA, and tbh after this ban they should stop selling anything in USA....If they were to get hit by a ban of the type Huawei got It could mean an end for their smartphone domination (especially in mid/budget smartphones)
