Kali isn't based on backtrack. It's based on Debian.
Backtrack is based on ubuntu.
The developers are still the same afaik.
It's a pen testing OS and I use it as my main Linux OS for my pc. (I have other distros of linux)
Software support is good since it uses debian.

No script kiddie uses kali to pentrate a personal computer lol. That would be like 1 in a million chances. The programs in kali that is used to oenetrate stuff over the internet isn't thay hard to patch tho
Also Ubunu does use more resources then Debian and CentOS
It's more bloated. I suggest CentOS for >512mb ram servers tho. More stable.
