you can actually save time by not using handbrake instead just setting to output in lower bitrate . but if lower bitrate really make your video look like potato well you need to use handbrake

that is just my opinion

What is deinterlacing ? I have seen that option in many video related software. I am not aware what it does though.

According to Wikipedia:
Deinterlacing is the process of converting interlaced video, such as common analog television signals or 1080i format HDTV signals, into a non-interlaced form.

An interlaced video frame consists of two sub-fields taken in sequence, each sequentially scanned at odd, and then even, lines of the image sensor. Analog television employed this technique because it allowed for less transmission bandwidth and further eliminated the perceived flicker that a similar frame rate would give using progressive scan. CRT-based displays were able to display interlaced video correctly due to their complete analogue nature. Newer displays are inherently digital, in that the display comprises discrete pixels. Consequently, the two fields need to be combined into a single frame, which leads to various visual defects. The deinterlacing process should try to minimize these.

basically it is converting your interlaced video into progressive video

handbrake is one of the best compressor . if you have a huge video file and want to compress it use handbrake not winrar . winrar is for files not a video file

Where does interlaced video comes to use ? I never had the need to do that to play any video till date. Where do you get interlaced videos from ?

in some camera/camcorder to get 60fps you need to go interlaced for example there are camcorder that can record 1080p30 but to record 60 frame per second they interlace the video making it 1080i60 there are more frame but half the resolution and you get the line effect

for me i still prefer the progressive instead of interlacing even tough it have lower framerate the quality is much better
