WireGuard VPN Setup Script
#1

What exactly is WireGuard (from the WireGuard homepage):
https://www.wireguard.com/ Wrote:WireGuard is an extremely simple yet fast and modern VPN that utilizes state-of-the-art cryptography. It aims to be faster, simpler, leaner, and more useful than IPsec, while avoiding the massive headache. It intends to be considerably more performant than OpenVPN. WireGuard is designed as a general purpose VPN for running on embedded interfaces and super computers alike, fit for many different circumstances. Initially released for the Linux kernel, it is now cross-platform (Windows, macOS, BSD, iOS, Android) and widely deployable. It is currently under heavy development, but already it might be regarded as the most secure, easiest to use, and simplest VPN solution in the industry.

WireGuard was a new VPN technology I have always wanted to try since I first heard about it. This was when it was still in early development and not being even available as a alpha or beta... far from ready for release.

Some time later WireGuard has finally reached a state where the developers decided it was ready for release. So WireGuard VPN was finally launched. As always, with new technologies you have to learn new things. How it works, how to set it up, how to troubleshoot issues and etc. We all know how it is.

Being busy I didn't really have time for all of this so I didn't really touch WireGuard. Once I was actually almost about to make a tutorial here but as it comes... something more important prevented me from doing the guide. With my job now going fully blown I have even less free time.

I did some research and found a setup script that will set up a WireGuard VPN server on your server and create a client configuration file for you. The script has been developed by a member of the LowEndTalk forums known as Angristan. He made it available for use at GitHub with instructions.

URL: https://github.com/angristan/wireguard-install

I finally used this due to lack of time to setup my own server step by step. Now I have a working WireGuard VPN server. WireGuard feels refreshing and snappy compared to all previous VPN solutions I tried. Give it a go.

Warning: WireGuard is becoming a part of the Linux kernel when you install it to get all the performance out of the server that it can and to make use of the full network stack to make the VPN mechanism easier and more secure. You need to be able to modify the Linux kernel of your server to use WireGuard. So OpenVZ VPSs are OUT! You need a Hyper-V, KVM, VMWare or Xen-HVM server or a real dedicated server.

As a good and alternative WireGuard client with a killswitch and other functions I can recommend TunSafe: https://tunsafe.com/

I'm using this and it works great. The killswitch is a great feature if you want to prevent network leaks when for some reason the VPN disconnects.

@hamed

WireGuard has official clients for Linux, Unix, Windows and MacOS. In addition to this Desktop OSs it also has clients for iOS and Android. And alternatively you can use WireGuard VPN clients made by other people or companies.

Official clients: https://www.wireguard.com/install/

As I already mentioned in the OP post I use TunSafe for Windows: https://tunsafe.com/

WireGuard is a fully blown VPN that tunnels all of your traffic. There is no HTTP VPN. This things are called HTTP proxies. A VPN always tunnels all traffic and all protocols.
