I have not yet infected with torrents, may be I do not download softwares from torrent always, between I do sometimes, usually I read the comments before downloading. Also I will check number of seeds and leeches, also I do check file format and scan the file after download.
Always take caution while loading torrents with less leech,seed and comments, ensure the uploader's honesty. It will help to avoid downloading viruses.

Torrent ≠ Safe, i wouldn't recommend Post4VPS Users to do torrenting though you guys are free to do whatever you want to do with your bandwidth.

I think every public sites are dangerous because there are many fake torrents with viruses.
Private trackers are much safer but I would never download a software from torrent.
There are now open source and free alternatives for almost every software.
