Patriots Day / 2016 / USA / 7.4 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:The story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath, which includes the city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists responsible. On April 15, 2013 Boston, Massachusetts, Police Sgt, Tommy Saunders is pulling security duty on the annual Boston Marathon when the Tsarnaev brothers strike with their homemade bombs in an act of terrorism. In the resulting chaos as the wounded are cared for, Saunders and his comrades join forces with the FBI to get to the bottom of this attack. As the investigation continues, the Tsarnaev brothers realize that the authorities are close to identifying them and attempt to flee the city to continue their fanatical mayhem. To stop them, a police manhunt is performed that would have bloody confrontations and a massive dragnet shutting down the City of Boston to make sure there is no escape from the law.

A really great movie about the Boston Marathon Bombing from 2013. It is not a documentary! We're talking about a action drama. Worth a watch for sure.

A Good Woman Is Hard to Find / 2019 / UK / 6.2 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

Wikipedia & IMDb' Wrote:A recently widowed young mother will go to any lengths to protect her children as she seeks the truth behind her husband's murder. Sarah Collins, a recently widowed young mother of two children, Ben and Lucy, is desperate to know who murdered her husband Stephen. Her son Ben has been an elective mute since the day he witnessed his father being knifed to death on their estate in the middle of the day. Police have done nothing to catch the killer, categorising his death as a falling-out amongst thieves. One day, after ripping off local crime boss Leo Miller, Tito breaks into Sarah's flat, where he decides to stash the stolen drugs. Frightened senseless, Sarah wants nothing to do with this, but caught between a rock and a hard place, she sees an opportunity to use Tito to gain information about what might have happened to her husband with the hope of eventually returning to some semblance of a normal life. Ben accidentally finds the drugs and also tries some. Upon finding that the drugs have been ruined, an irate Tito tries to rape Sarah, but she stabs him to death and disposes of his remains. Leo discovers that Tito was the one who stole his drugs and his connection to Sarah. Leo confronts Sarah and the children while they are out shopping. Ben runs away after seeing Leo and when Sarah catches up to him, he confirms that Leo was the one who killed his father. She later agrees to bring Tito to Leo. Sarah goes to the nightclub to meet Leo, carrying with her Tito's head, and orders Leo to leave her and her family alone. When Leo does not comply, she kills Leo and his thugs after learning they killed Stephen for interfering in their business. The murders are dismissed as gang-related violence.

Well, I can only say that I think the movie is better than the rating it has received.

The whole movie was shot in only 16 days while being filmed in Northern Ireland and Belgium (weird location switch). The budget for the movie also seemed to be lower than usual. However the visuals and everything else is pretty high standard.

Ichi / 2008 / Japan / 6.6 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:Ichi is a blind woman who roams about town with her shamisen (a three-stringed Japanese guitar), but she has exceptional sword skills with which she fights off yakuza and other villains.Following the footsteps of the blind masseur and swordsman Zatoichi comes Ichi, a woman and a daughter who travels the land as a 'goze' or visually impaired woman who plays the traditional three-stringed shamisen. This woman, however, has a hidden talent. She not only has the command of a lightning-fast blade, but also uses it in terms of justice and a quest for her long-lost father. Matching her skill is a man whose swordsmanship is only bested by his internal inhibition.

Not to be confused with Ichi the Killer!

I enjoyed this movie and would probably watch it again but it's not really that special. I would say the rating fits the movie well. Dialogue and fighting scenes are bit under developed and clunky. That's the main reason why the movie hasn't made it that far. Definitely cannot be compared to Zatoichi.

Uncut Gems / 2019 / USA / 7.4 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:With his debts mounting and angry collectors closing in, a fast-talking New York City jeweler risks everything in hope of staying afloat and alive. Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler) is a once successful New York gems dealer whose gambling addiction has left his family and career in shambles, and him hundreds of thousands in debt. Always looking for the next big bet, Howard thinks he finally hit it big when he discovers a rare uncut rock of Ethiopian gems, with a very interested high-profile buyer. But the closer Howard gets to finally winning big, the more he is forced to realize he can't keep running from the consequences of his actions.

That was an intense movie with great acting skills as always presented by Adam Sandler. He can play about any character and will always do it really authentic and funny (as most movies with him are).

Great one! You should watch it or you'll miss something good.

The funny thing is that the top review on IMDb is one of the worst scores for the movies. I think the person who made the review missed the whole point of the movie. And so did many others when they voted this review to be the best review for that move on IMDb but hey you know that site is crowd driven Smile. So nevermind that top review and watch it yourself and keep in mind how busy New York is and imagine how it is to be in the shoes and life of the character that Adam Sandler is playing. I think it would be a constant fast paced river with extreme currents (the gambling addiction, the struggle to make money to pay off debts, the insane bets and etc...).

Presumed Innocent / 1990 / USA / 6.9 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:As a lawyer investigates the murder of a colleague, he finds himself more connected to the crime than anyone else. Rozat Sabich - Rusty to most that know him, even in formal circumstances - is the Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Kindle County, Illinois. His wife, Barbara Sabich, has been struggling with focus on completing her Ph.D. dissertation in Mathemetics - a thus far ten year process - she who nonetheless is applying for a college teaching position. They are generally in a loving, supportive marriage, Barbara who seems to have gotten over Rusty's infidelity with his colleague Carolyn Polhemus, an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. Carolyn is ambitious, she who, in part, used Rusty to try and climb up the ladder. Barbara will still throw the issue of Carolyn in his face whenever there are problems between the two. Rusty and Carolyn's affair is unknown to others in their personal and professional circles. Rusty is handed the most personal case of his career when his boss and mentor, Chief Prosecuting Attorney Raymond Horgan, assigns him the case to discover who killed Carolyn, her dead body...

One of the older movies with Harrison Ford that I enjoyed watching. Although I have to admit that it's one of those movies that is almost very easy to predict. A case without real proofs, a motive and etc. Once you've seen other movies with the same plotline you know how these usually end.

Bastille Day / 2016 / UK / 6.3 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A young pickpocket and an unruly CIA agent team up on an anti-terrorist mission in France. Michael Mason, a pickpocket living in Paris, steals a bag with a teddy bear in it. Not realizing the toy contains a timed bomb, he tosses it aside on a busy street. A few seconds later it explodes, killing four people. CCTV footage reveals Mason's face and the French police tag him as a terrorist threat. The explosion, although botched, was set up by a select group of the French Interior Ministry as a decoy so they can make a half billion dollar digital transfer from a bank (closed on French National Day) -- hence the title Bastille Day. In a separate CIA investigation the unruly agent Sean Briar discovers the real story behind Mason's "terrorist attack". The two men, on different sides of the law, collaborate to bring the corrupt members of the Ministry down.

The movie was okish but not really very goodish. Goes more into average.

Can't really say more.

The Bygone / 2019 / USA / 6.3 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDB Wrote:When a young rancher crosses paths with a Lakota girl from a nearby reservation, her mysterious disappearance sparks a search that uncovers a harrowing past and hints at a dire future.

This movie seems to be one of the less known ones. Have not found much about it. It seemed interesting but in the end also was rather average (sadly).

The main character is kind of a useless guy to be honest mostly. You have to watch it and you will understand and agree. Or check the most helpful and at the same time the worst scoring review on IMDb Wink . I agree with it in terms of waht the reviewer wrote but the score is of course not that bad imho.

Big Nothing / 2006 / UK / 6.8 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A frustrated, unemployed professor joins forces with a scammer and a friend of his in a blackmailing scheme. Charlie is an ex-professor turned reluctant call center employee who gets fired on the first day. Distraught at being unable to provide for his daughter Emily and wife Penelope, he accepts when Gus, an aspiring scam artist who presents Charlie with a seemingly snag-free plan to make some cash. The plan is to blackmail Reverend Smalls, a man of the cloth, who's frequently turned up in the company database of visitors to illegal porn sites. Gus plans to extort Reverend Smalls, with the intention of publicly exposing his secret shame should he refuse, thus potentially destroying the man's career. Normally cautious, Charlie is keen on participating in this scam, confident that the money he'll make from the scam will finally help turn things around for him and his family. Joined by one-time teenage pageant queen Josie McBroom, Gus's ex, the plan goes ahead, but it all goes wrong as Reverend Smalls dies thanks to this trio, with this only being the start of their troubles.

A really great movie with dark humor and Simon Pegg in a leading role (king of several really great other comedy movies with dark humor elements). Imho this movie is way too underrated. You should watch it if you enjoy comedy movies with Simon Pegg and dark humor.

We're No Angels / 1989 / USA / 6.2 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:Two escaped cons only prayer to escape is to pass themselves off as priests and pass by the police blockade at the border into the safety of Canada.

Oh cool movie! Robert De Niro aund Sean Penn in it. It was also funny. Moreso if you imagine yourself in their situation and how the story went to the end. Well, of course being a con is still a bad thing.

...and justice for all. / 1979 / USA / 7.4 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A lawyer is forced to defend a guilty judge, while defending other innocent clients, and trying to find punishment for the guilty and provide justice for the innocent. When a judge is charged with rape, Arthur Kirkland is forced to defend him. Kirkland has had problems with the judge in the past, including one incident when the judge wrongly sentenced his client Jeff McCullaugh because of a technicality. Kirkland faces a moral and legal dilemma.

One of the older movies with Al Pacino. Again he is not playing the role of a villian and instead is playing the role of a lawyer (one of the movies before I posted here he was playing a undercover cop).

For a 42 year old movie it does a good job in my opinion Smile . I have to admit though that I kind of enjoy the movies where he plays a villian (Scarface and others) more Big Grin .

Harsh Times / 2005 / USA / 6.9 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A tough-minded drama about two friends in South Central Los Angeles and the violence that comes between them. Jim Davis is an ex-Army Ranger who finds himself slipping back into his old life of petty crime after a job offer from the LAPD evaporates. His best friend is pressured by his girlfriend Sylvia to find a job, but Jim is more interested in hanging out and making cash from small heists, while trying to get a law enforcement job so he can marry his Mexican girlfriend.

Actually a really great movie about two friends trying to get their stuff together and get jobs. However they are still like teenagers in their mind. So they don't take things serious. When the table turns and both get a real chance for a job and finally get the position they decide to celebrate. From there on everything becomes a nightmare.

Worth to watch it Smile . Christian Bale as always playing his role perfectly.

There Will Be Blood / 2007 / USA / 8.2 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business. The intersecting life stories of Daniel Plainview and Eli Sunday in early twentieth century California is presented. Miner turn oilman Daniel Plainview is a driven man who will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. He works hard but he also takes advantage of those around him at their expense if need be. His business partner is his son H.W., who in reality he "acquired" when H.W.'s biological single father, who worked on one of Daniel's rigs, got killed in a workplace accident. Daniel is deeply protective of H.W. if only for what H.W. brings to the partnership. Eli Sunday is one in a pair of twins, whose family farm Daniel purchases for the major oil deposit located on it. Eli, the local preacher and a self-proclaimed faith healer, wants the money from the sale of the property to finance his own church. The lives of the two competitive men often clash as Daniel pumps oil off the property and tries to acquire all the surrounding land at bargain prices to be able to build a pipeline to the coast, and as Eli tries to build his own religious empire.

A brilliant movie about the blood of the United States. OIL! You know what the US does for OIL. Starting wars, taking over countries, etc.. It all goes back so far and further.

Watch it!

Watched Six Days Seven Nights (1998). No clue why I hadn't seen this before. I thought I have watched all good Harrison Ford movies. Somehow I had missed this one. But it's not a typical Indiana Jones-type movie. Also, David Schwimmer is among the cast who I have rarely seen in movies. That's an actor from the popular Friends TV series. I think it's a pretty good movie and also they have made some good profit from it too.

I found this interesting FB page that shares parts of movies. Just tailer like videos but they just choose the best part of the movie. I have found quite a few interesting movies to watch. Some are Chinese and Korean.

True Grit / 2010 / USA / 7.6 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A stubborn teenager enlists the help of a tough U.S. Marshal to track down her father's murderer. Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested.

It was a great movie but it didn't have really much action in general. So for me it did contain quite some boring scenes.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 / 2020 / USA / 7.8 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:The story of 7 people on trial stemming from various charges surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago 1968, the Democratic Party Convention was met with protests from activists like the moderate Students for a Democratic Society led by Tom Hayden and the militant Yippies led by Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, which led to violent confrontations with the local authorities. As a result, seven of the accused ringleaders are arraigned on charges like Conspiracy by the hostile Nixon administration, including Bobby Seale of the Black Panthers who was not involved in the incident. What follows is an unfair trial presided by the belligerent Judge Hoffman (No relation) and prosecuted by a reluctant but duty-bound Richard Schultz. As their pro bono lawyers face such odds, Hayden and his fellows are frustrated by the Yippies' outrageous antics undermining their defense in defiance of the system even while Seale is denied a chance to defend himself his way. Along the way, the Chicago 7 clash in their political philosophies even as they learn they need each other in this fight.

Watch this!

I will say no more.

The Ninth Gate / 1999 / USA / 6.7 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

Quote:A rare book dealer, while seeking out the last two copies of a demon text, gets drawn into a conspiracy with supernatural overtones. In New York, the money-driven dealer Dean Corso is a rare-books expert and partner of Bernie, who owns a bookstore. He is contacted by the renowned collector of books about the devil Boris Balkan, who has just acquired the rare The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows from the collector Andrew Telfer, to verify whether his book is authentic or a forgery. Balkan explains that the book was written by the writer Aristide Torchia, in 1666, with Lucifer and he was burned at the stake with his entire work. There are only three exemplars of The Nine Gates and in accordance with the legend, its nine engravings form a riddle to conjure the devil. The skeptical Corso accepts the assignment and has to fly to Sintra, Portugal, and Paris, France, to contact the owners Victor Fargas and Baroness Kessler and find the genuine exemplar for Balkan. Meanwhile, he asks Bernie to hide the rare book. Before traveling to Europe, the widow Liana Telfer wants to retrieve the book and has sex with Corso, but he does not accept her offer. When Corso returns to Bernie's bookstore, he finds his friend murdered in the same position of an engraving. Corso travels to Toledo, Spain, to meet the Ceniza twin brothers and learn more about The Nine Gates. During his journey in Europe, Corso is pursued by Liana and her bodyguard, who belong to the sect The Order of the Silver Serpents, and is protected by a mysterious Girl with supernatural powers. Meanwhile, the owners of the two other exemplars of The Nine Gates are murdered. Corso becomes obsessed with the book and discloses the truth about it.

Conspiracy related movies, TV shows or documentaries are always interesting. This one is, too.

Well, I think I will be the first one to write about it: I have watched Zack Snyder's Justice League.

What I can say? It is a total top-down of the previous cut. It is more deep and the plot is now working well. They added new scenes and prepared the ground for the continuation of the verse. But it is still unclear if they are going to produces sequels... the CEO of Warner has said that the "official" film it still the 2017 movie.

As always, I post the plot from wikipedia
Quote:Thousands of years ago, Darkseid and his legions of Parademons attempted to conquer Earth using the Mother Boxes. The attempt was foiled by a unified alliance of the Olympian Gods, Amazons, Atlanteans, humans, and a Green Lantern. After the battle, the Mother Boxes were separated and hidden in different locations. In the present, Superman's death[b] triggers the Mother Boxes' reactivation, attracting Steppenwolf, one of Darkseid's servants, to Earth. Steppenwolf, who has fallen out of favor with Darkseid, aims to regain it by gathering the boxes to form "the Unity," which would terraform Earth in the likeness of their world Apokolips.

Steppenwolf retrieves a Mother Box from Themyscira, prompting Queen Hippolyta to warn her daughter Diana Prince, who informs Bruce Wayne. Wayne and Prince seek to form a team of metahumans to protect Earth in Superman's absence. Wayne locates Arthur Curry and Barry Allen, while Prince locates Victor Stone. Allen joins instantly, while Curry and Stone refuse. However, Stone joins after his father Silas and several other S.T.A.R. Labs employees are kidnapped by Parademons seeking the humans' Mother Box. Steppenwolf attacks an Atlantean outpost to retrieve their Mother Box, forcing Curry into action.

The team receives intel from Commissioner James Gordon, leading them to Steppenwolf's army in an abandoned facility under Gotham Harbor. Although the group rescues the kidnapped employees, the facility is flooded during combat, which traps the team until Curry helps delay the flood so they can escape. Stone retrieves the last Mother Box, which he had hidden, for the group to analyze. Stone reveals that Silas used the Mother Box to rebuild his body after a car accident. He also reveals that the Mother Boxes are "change machines" that unfalteringly enforce the will of their master, destroying or restoring to life without bias. The group decides to use the Mother Box to resurrect Superman to help fight Steppenwolf. Allen and Stone exhume Superman's body, and the group places it in the amniotic fluid of the genesis chamber in a Kryptonian scout ship[c] kept in S.T.A.R. Labs, and after Allen activates the Mother Box, an amnesiac Superman is resurrected. A confused Superman attacks the group after Stone accidentally launches an attack at him. Lois Lane, who has been regularly visiting Superman's memorial, arrives in time to calm Superman down. Together, they leave for his family home in Smallville, where he regains his memories and reunites with his mother, Martha.

Steppenwolf attacks S.T.A.R. Labs and retrieves the last Mother Box, though Silas manages to supercharge the Box with laser heat at the cost of his own life, allowing Stone to deduce its location by tracing the residual heat. Without Superman, the five heroes travel to where Steppenwolf aims to unite the Mother Boxes. The team fights their way through the Parademons to reach the Mother Boxes but cannot distract Steppenwolf enough for Stone to separate the Mother Boxes. Superman arrives and overpowers Steppenwolf, but the Boxes merge to form the Unity, causing a massive explosion. Allen enters the Speed Force and reverses time, allowing Superman and Stone to separate the Mother Boxes. The heroes then kill Steppenwolf and toss his body into the portal to Apokolips, which closes. Darkseid assures his servant DeSaad he will return to Earth to complete his quest for the Anti-Life Equation.

After the battle, Wayne, Prince, and Alfred Pennyworth agree to set up a base of operations at the former Wayne Manor, with room for more members. As the team establishes, Prince receives another message from the Amazons, Allen acquires a job in Central City's police department which impresses his father Henry, Stone is inspired by a message from his father to use his abilities for good, Curry bids farewell to Mera and his mentor Nuidis Vulko as he goes to see his father,[d] and Superman resumes his life as reporter Clark Kent and as protector of Earth.

Lex Luthor, who escaped from Arkham Asylum, is visited by Slade Wilson, to whom Luthor reveals Batman's secret identity. After having a dream involving Stone, Allen, Mera, Wilson, the Joker, and an evil Superman in a post-apocalyptic world,[e] Wayne receives a visit from the Martian Manhunter, who previously visited Lane disguised as Martha. He thanks Wayne for assembling the team before saying they will be in contact in preparation for Darkseid's next plans.

Sunshine / 2007 / USA / 7.2 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A team of international astronauts are sent on a dangerous mission to reignite the dying Sun with a nuclear fission bomb in 2057. 50 years into the future, the Sun begins to die, and Earth is dying as a result. A team of astronauts is sent to revive the Sun - but the mission fails. Seven years later, a new team is sent to finish the mission as mankind's last hope.

Honestly, it was a good movie to watch. Of course not 100% perfect but a good one.

The story is interesting. I've seen other movies about the sun before. The characters are great and some actors are well known for roles in many other great movies.

I enjoyed watching it.

1408 / 2007 / USA / 6.8 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDB Wrote:A man who specialises in debunking paranormal occurrences checks into the fabled room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel. Soon after settling in, he confronts genuine terror. The cynical and skeptical writer Mike Enslin writes books evaluating supernatural phenomena in hotels, graveyards and other haunted places, usually debunking the mystery. While writing his latest book, he travels from Los Angeles to New York to spend one night in the Dolphin Hotel's posessed room 1408, which is permanently unavailable for guests. The reluctant manager Mr. Gerald Olin objects to his request and offers an upgrade, expensive booze and finally relates the death of more than fifty guests over decades in the cursed room. However Mike threatens Mr. Olin, promising to sue the hotel, and is finally allowed to check into the room. Later in the night, he finds that guests of room 1408, once they have checked in, might never leave the room alive.

One of the greater horror movies. It's a movie that doesn't suck. Most horror movies and A LOT of the newer ones all suck totally. They are utter crap and reflect that in their ratings by thousands and ten thousands of viewers. 1408 however is an older movie that works well in its genres.

Nick of Time / 1995 / USA / 6.3 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:An unimpressive, everyday man is forced into a situation where he is told to kill a politician to save his kidnapped daughter. Gene Watson is a public accountant who arrives on a train at Union Station in Los Angeles, accompanied by his 6-year-old daughter Lynn. Because of his ordinary looks, he is approached by a pair of sinister people named Smith and Jones. Pretending to be cops, Smith and Jones kidnap Lynn and confront Gene with a simple choice -- kill California governor Eleanor Grant in 90 minutes or less, or Lynn will die. Watson is given a gun, six bullets, and a name tag, and he is told to go to the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and kill Eleanor, who is giving an afternoon speech. While Jones is watching Lynn in a van, Smith watches Watson in order to prevent Watson from alerting the authorities. Watson must quickly find some way to get himself and Lynn out of this seemingly impossible situation.

A really interesting movie about a conspiracy to kill a political figure by a secret circle of police / security forces and even the husband of the political figure.

A old movie with the young version of Johnny Depp. It was good Smile .
