Hello,
I tried to install vnc on my new vps 9 (CentOS 7) and i get this
[root@Post4VPS-Dallas ~]# vncserver

New 'Post4VPS-Dallas:1 (root)' desktop is Post4VPS-Dallas:1

Starting applications specified in /root/.vnc/xstartup
Log file is /root/.vnc/Post4VPS-Dallas:1.log
But when i try to connect i get this
aand when i tried to install GNOME desktop the ssh didn't work and i had to reset my panel

OK - I've done some research at Virmach.  Try their suggestion below - looks as though it may already have been configured for VPS 9 (there is a chance also that it hasn't if you read the content of what they say below):

If it doesn't work, then maybe it is not configured for their plan. I won't advise that you try this yourself then as you're likely then going to have to ask for a reset of the OS again. If you've done it before and failed, it is likely to fail again.

Just a suggestion. Instead of messing around with old and lame VNC try FreeNX/x2Go. It is much better and runs directly over SSH and is therefore encrypted by design.

VNC is just one of the worst remote desktop solutions. I mean everytime someone starts to use it they always run into this kind of issues you have. It never works properly unless you use the Windows version.

@youssefbasha  Virmach has issues with its network connection in Los Angeles that has been experiencing loss of data packets, so doesn't have spare capacity for support.  We put in a support request hours ago for Sagher who lost use of his VPS 9 yesterday morning.  So please note that if you fiddle around too much with your VPS 9, that there won't be any support from Virmach for a while.

Suggest that you wait with VNC until Virmach has sorted out its problems and you can be assured of some backup first. If you really need VNC it may be better to look at another VPS that already supplies VNC.

@youssefbasha  I have submitted a support request to Virmach to set up a VNC on your VPS.  

Please do not attempt to do it yourself.

technically it is possible to install vnc yourself . i follow online tutorial about installing gnome vnc and it worked on my ex VPS 9 . you just need to start it manually if you didnt make an autoexec for the vnc

It may have worked for you at the time you installed it, but Virmach has become more strict with Firewall and ability to work with VNC. When youssefbasha and I tried it, it wouldn't work.

Suggest we stick with what I've started which is a support ticket with Virmach. I've had too many issues with VPS 9 that has taken up LOADS of my time. No more experimentation please! Let's keep it simple.

The guide is for Ubuntu/Debian. So I guess if you cannot adopt it to CentOS you have to switch OSs.

The great thing about FreeNX/x2Go is that it works over SSH. So if you can access SSH on your server this FreeNX/x2Go remote desktop will work 100% if you set it up correctly with XFCE.

I always used it on Debian if I needed a desktop and it always worked perfectly and quite fast even on slow connections unlike VNC.
