My Laptop Fan Keeps Making Noise
#1
I have a Lenovo X220i Laptop, I used it for around 1 year, there was no noise from the laptop fan. But nowadays it makes rough noise.
What would be the reason? Do these fans normally make noise?

Thank you  Sweet

Clean the fan, from dust! And make sure the air circulation is not blocked

Not with my laptop, but with my PC. It happened to make noise after 2 years of buying that CPU. But I bought a dust cleaner(you won't need it for laptop, i think) and cleaned all shiets, it works much faster now. So hence it must be dust.

Of course it is abnormal. Laptop fans should be reasonably quiet and should not make noticeable noise.

Cleaning dust should be the first thing you should do now. But sometimes the fan motor may have already been loosen or fan blades not balanced, so cleaning dust cannot always fix the noise issue. If that happens, you better get a replacement as soon as possible.

To change spare parts, I usually go to the laptop's official service center!

ill suggest you first.

make sure you clean up your windows. check on unnecessary apps that are running in the background.
and do a regular clean up so you maybe hear your fan going like 8% slower.

after it, try to take it apart as far as you can so you know how to put it back together.
just clean it up with a compressed air cleaner. and put it back together in a careful way.

test if this solution worked.

Has to be a hardware problem @Littlemaster.  If the laptop is only a year old, I'd think the most obvious thing to do is to take it back to where you purchased it and ask them for their advice.  Don't fiddle with it until they've had a chance to advise you.  Could be that other purchasers like yourself are experiencing the exact same problem, and the sales people may immediately know what the problem is and will be able to provide you with a solution.

If the laptop is older - or second hand and the supplier can't be found, when I did research I found the comments at the link below that may point to a solution. Looks as though the problem is one that is experienced by many people and Lenovo knows about it.   Maybe you have to update some of the bios software where apparently the problem has been corrected:

Quote:Before replacing hardware for a noisy fan complaint, you must ensure that the machine is using BIOS 1.16 and EC 1.07 or newer. In BIOS 1.16 we changed thermal setting to reduce an annoying fan noise. This fix will be included in newer BIOS/EC releases as well.

What you need to do is to get the Lenovo online assistant - provide the assistant with all of your laptop info - and it will then give you the updates that are needed for your laptop and tell you how to install it.

You can start with this link and see where it takes you - it's currently on South Africa - but there should be one specifically for your region.  Before you do this check first if you can get all of the references for your laptop like the serial and product numbers.  They should be at the bottom of your laptop:

cleaning the fan is a great thing to do in this situation . Some fan getting that noise because of dirty .it worth giving a try . 1 year is enough time to trap all the dust . If it doesnt work ypu probably need to replace it
