VPS 4 Review

Introduction:
Hello, this is my first time to review my first VPS hosted by HostMyBytes. I would like to say thank you Post4VPS and HostMyBytes for my VPS 4.

VPS Specifications:

• Disk Space 50 GB
  
• RAM: 1 GB RAM
  
• IP Addresses: 2x IPv4
  
• Virtualization: OpenVZ

• Location:  Chicago, USA
  
• Control Panel: SolusVM
  
• Connection: 1 GBit/s
  

Feedback:
Disk Space 50GB is good enough same as the RAM 1GB for a free VPS, for control panel SolusVM I personally find it, basic and easy to understand control panel for a VPS and a 1 GBit/s line connection is superb.

Suggestions:
Hmmm I would like to suggest if we can make add x1 IPv6 instead of x2 IPv4.

Issue:
I got some issue with VPS 4 regarding in my SolusVM control panel, that whenever I try to click refresh like 5 times it has error "An error occurred processing your request. The host is currently unavailable. Please try again later" but then sir Patrik from HostMyBytes assisted me and said maybe it's a bug from SolusVM, well it's not a big deal thou and I want to say thanks to sir Patrik for assisting me regards my concern.

P.S. I will update it more and make review time to time using it.

At first SSH eas denying the password I set via the panel.
Tried Serial console, then checked ifconfig it was empty. (Except for loopback interface)
Reconfigured networking in panel.
Now SSH won't even let me enter my username. Serial console doesn't work also.

EDIT:
The reason I found out that networking wasn't configured is when I tried to ping my other server it said "unknown host". check resolv.conf it has correct dns servers. check ifconfig it has no venet interface.
What's weird is when I tried to connect to the IP, it connected (Before I reconfigured the networking). Which makes it seems that the IP assigned to my VPS is used by another VPS.

FreeVPS Benchmark Script V2 made by Hidden Refuge



As the log shows, you get a share of an Intel Xeon E7-4850. Which is an - somewhat old - but still quite reasonable CPU at a clockspeed of 2.00 Ghz with 10 cores and 20 threads.
Though, your VPS only gets a share of: 5 CPU cores at about 400 Mhz (358.866 to be exact), which is not a really high amount, but it should be okay for most light use-cases. The download speeds are actually really low, even close to the server the speeds are not getting higher than 10MB/s. I'll talk more about the network later, after my Speedtest.net results.

Well, it might be clear that the network Perry's VPS uses is Fibernetics/ KW Datacentre, the same shitty network as CloudAtCost uses. There surely is work to be done!!

I/O Speed
Well, although at first I thought those speeds were fake, but Perry also did the same command at the main server, so it can't be faked by OpenVZ, and surprisingly the speeds were really close, so I guess these are what kind of I/O you should expect from these VPSes.

Control Panel

The VPS Perry is providing comes with the OpenVZ Web Panel. An open-source, but quite good and handy panel to manage your VPS.

Well, since I don't want, and I am not going to, say a bad word about OWP, this is pretty much it about the CP.

Suggestions

- Fix the up- and downlinks.
- Allocate a higher core frequency to the VPSes. Edit: see post #2 down below


Final Ratings
The VPS is not bad, but it's definately also not one of the best ones. There surely is some work to be done, as I said.

Well, since I rated my DO VPS with 9/10, the GHP VPS with 8/10, I have to rate this one with 6/10. It's not really bad, but it's worse than the servers I named before.
