I would recommend CodeCademy! I learnt jQuery there and it was really fun.
They have quite good interactive tutorials so that you can try it out yourself, in fact, you have to do the
required steps to continue. To make sure you understand everything.

If you've chosen to program, that's a great choice! there are number of sites available and numerous videos explaining different programming languages however the way I'd recommend starting things off is from online courses, like you can Harvard Uni's CS50x here, there they give basics of C and you also learn how to use the online program known as Scratch which helps you understand the basics of any language, I've said what I can and helped you as much as I can, rest is upto you my friend! For any language, there are a lot of video tutorial available for free on YouTube. You can also find and download a suitable eBook for offline practice. As suggested above, there are online courses available as well. Some are free, others, you need to pay for.

I would say you should start learning first how a computer works inside out, then read about why algorithms are the heart of any computation process, then read about why you should care about memory and space constraints when writing programs.  :idea:

I think PHP is very easy and straight forward. However, it requires a webserver.

I would recommend a language that has Object Oriented Programming as well as linear programming (plain subroutines)

You might want to try Python 2 or 3 as it is almost plain English. In my opinion is boring and slow, but it is very easy to read.

Another language that has linear and OOP is JavaScript. The gain here is that you can use Firefox Scratchpad to test your HelloWorld.

The last but not least is Perl. This language can be ugly, obfuscated nad awkard if you program it, or it can be a breeze if you plan for it.

The course of action to take IMHO would be:
1. Select a language
2. Execute a HelloWorld
3. Do some other printing around
4. Read about (generic) input/output, processes properties, variables, user defined subroutines and predefined subroutines (or functions)
5. Apply what you've learned creating a bigger script, in small increments.

Use freecodecamp channel in Youtube, those are free 1-2hr video's that explains everything about a language you need to know and learn. And the benefit? You wouldn't have to juggle between 5-6 7 videos.
