Note: We would not only view points for VPS 9 but also the VPS usage purpose too, so if you a have reasonable purpose, then only try to claim for them as otherwise it would be just a waste of resource

just curious. are you going to develop / code the whole dang thing from ground up or are you going to use any script from websites that sell those clone site scripts ?

why not use reddit ? you have all kinds of boards there and much higher exposure. on your own, it will take months, if not years, to get a good userbase. i want to know more if you dont mind sharing.

also i hope you have gone with "vps 9 or vps 4". cause vps 4 has very good resources too. and ssd storage. lots of it.

I'm going to use the script that powers 'phuks.co' and work on improving it and optimizing it. It's a free and open source script that's largely a reddit clone, a link aggregator/community site.

Why? Because it's nice to give back to the community and they could use some development help. I know the authors and I'll have some time to give them some help. My goal will probably mostly be optimization. I'll work on developing a caching system and will see if I can increase the efficiency of their database calls. Right now, they're having issues and are thinking about moving their DB to its own dedicated server. I'd like to help them avoid that.

In my request, I requested VPS 9, but also added that I'm pretty sure I can fit it into a VPS 4 and maybe into a VPS 5. One of the things I'll be doing is hammering on the script with fake traffic and that's going to require quite a bit of RAM. I've already got access to a test database with which to populate it and run simulations from there.

I'm not actually a great programmer, but I read a lot and I've done some of this stuff before. I think it'll be a good educational project for me, and I hope that my results will benefit the community. If you'd like more information, this is where I'd suggest starting:

Suggest that you check out a mirror IP to see how your ISP works with the IP location. If you check the VPS 9 reviews - one of the owners had problem with speed possibly because of their location far from the hub. Maybe you could ask the Giveaway Manager what location the VPS 9 is and see whether you can get hold of a mirror link on the Virmach Website. I have a hunch that the VPS 9 could be from Seattle. But better to check with @Dynamo or @perryoo11

Yeah, I tried their test files and had no problems with any of them. On the VPS 9 it seems to indicate I can pick any location that I want? I figured I'd go with the one nearest to my house, 'cause I care more about my connectivity than anyone else's. They've got locations all across the US.

Strangely, though it's not terribly fast, I have a pretty good ISP. I'll do some more button poking, thanks for the advice.
