I don't even know how the sponsorship thing works? Like does the owners go up to company and say do you want to sponsor us in turn giving you guys public exposure and even paid users?

For what I saw, sometimes yes the owners came to the forum and contact admin. But, sometimes admin does that. Like now, I guess admin is searching someone who want to be the next sponsors. And after that, ya, the sponsors became a VIP members of the forum, and also get other what they want to (like here, it's maybe signature linkbacks and linkbacks if user use webserver).
