I'm still on Windows 7 but have the same dilemma. I can't put my Windows on automatic updates, as Microsoft updates conflict with my VPN. It also conflicts with other security systems. Not sure whether this is Microsoft's way of getting rid of its opposition in security systems and VPNs, but the last time I downloaded its security roll up it almost brought my Windows to its knees and I was completely unable to use my VPN. I had to use the Windows update backup system to roll back the backups to the previous update date - that fortunately is available on Windows 7 but get the feeling it's not available on Windows 10. You can't roll back the installation date. Bottom line, my Windows is unprotected now. Microsoft updates have become a threat in its own right - like I'm in trouble if I load the updates and I'm also in trouble if I don't.

So I definitely welcome anyone who makes suggestions how to disable updates - fully knowing that that is against my own interest as I'm not fully protected, but if it completely brings my computer system to freezing point, what else am I supposed to do? It's almost as though those socalled security updates are a threat to my computer. Microsoft wants to create a one size fits all Windows and updates in a world that doesn't work that way - we need to have the power to fix things when the updates don't work - however Microsoft doesn't want us to have the power to fix things when there are problems. I so wish we could get an alternative for Microsoft, or someone really good who could figure out a work around to getting the security updates without the conflicts that can come with it.
