No, you don't need Windows Update to update any of the hardware drivers. You're not even supposed to let Windows handle driver installations... It usually installs old drivers and sometimes additional stuff that you would have normally deselected during installation of the drivers (like Nvidia's 3D features when you don't even have a 3D screen or Nvidia Geforce Experience).

You are supposed to get the latest drivers from the websites of the companies that made the different hardware parts you have in your PC. If it is a prebuilt PC you can usually get half decent drivers from the company that made the PC on their homepage. For graphics drivers always go the page of the GPU company and download the newest drivers.

I would also suggest to run "services.msc" in the run dialog (Windows + R button combination) and disable all related services to Windows Updates.

a) Windows Update
b) Update Orchestrator Service for Windows Update

Edit the services and set them to Disabled and shut them down. Save the settings. Reboot. You might see notifications coming from Windows that Windows Updates services are disabled --> IGNORE THEM.
